Capt. Thivhulawi Tshilate of the Heidelberg police confirmed that two robbers gained entrance to an elderly couple’s residence in the early hours of November 2, 2014. The suspects cut an electric fence at a neighbouring reserve and gained entrance to the estate. They used a tree to get onto the couples balcony. The suspects overpowered the man and his wife while they were asleep. The husband was strangled with a tie, seriously tortured and tied up. Then the two suspects plundered the residence. They left with money, electrical equipment and jewellery. According to paramedics on the scene a retired doctor resuscitated the elderly man and assisted him breathing freely. Randburg Magistrate's Court Nov 4 2014 - Afrikaner singer Steve Hofmeyr obtains court order against Conrad Koch, the puppeteer of the character 'Chester Missing', to stop 'terrorising and demonising' the popular singer. 5 November 2014. The pro-Afrikaans Action Group assisted Hofmeyr in his application at the Randburg magistrate's court Wednesday. The court orders Koch from 'no further terrorising, contacting the sponsors of Hofmeyr or his partners or publish any more malicious comments about him'. The court order is valid until 27 November when Koch was ordered to appear in the Randburg court to explain why the court-order would not be made as a final order. An order for his arrest was issued and will be carried out if Koch fails to obey the order which is valid throughout South Africa. Dr Dan Roodt of Praag said in a statement: 'We could no longer sit still to see how Steve Hofmeyr, the most popular singer in Afrikaans and with whom we have been fighting for Afrikaner rights over the past decade, continues to be maliciously terrorised and demonised.' Praag and Hofmeyr also consider the possibility of suing Koch for slander for 'loathsome comments Koch published about Hofmeyr on Twitter'. Hofmeyr raised another furore on the social media when he tweeted two weeks earlier : " Sorry to offend but in my books Blacks were the architects of Apartheid. Injured, trapped farmer Matthys Grobler 58 robbed by minitaxi-driver and passenger -- after his bakkie was rolled in accident Bloemfontein-Bultfontein Road Nov 4 2014 Beeld daily: "Trapped, injured Soutpan farmer Matthys Grobler, 58, was robbed by a drunken black taxi-driver and a passenger after the farmer had rolled his bakkie in a mysterious accident while forced to swerve out of the way of 'an object in the road'. Grobler who farms on DeHoop near Bloemfontein FS swerved and rolled his bakkie when blinded by an approaching truck's headlights. He suffered head-injuries. While Grobler was semi-conscious he saw a black male - later identified as a taxi-driver - and a younger person steal his battery from his bakkie and R600 cash from his shirt pocket. After the blacks fled two young Afrikaner men Ciles Wilken 22 and CJ Weideman 17, came across the accident scene and CJ alerted his dad Stephan, head of SecuriForce in Bloemfontein about the theft - he was enroute to the accident. Young Wilken and Weideman first provided first-aid care to the injured farmer and when help arrived chased the taxi in their bakkie - stopping it in Kenneth Kaunda Street in Bloemfontein. The taxi-driver who reportedly was drunk said they 'only wanted to help the man' but Stephan saw the stolen battery in the back of the taxi. Then the two thieves admitted to stealing it but denied stealing the cash. The police arrived and "arrested" the two thieves while SecuriForce officer Hermi Spannenberg lodged a formal charge with the police - however the police tried to arrest the two young Afrikaner men instead, claiming they had 'pointed a gun at the alleged thieves'. The young men did not have any firearms. Meanwhile the police still want to charge them instead of the thieves. Spannenberg said the taxi-driver 'submitted his claim to the police while under the influence of alcohol." Spannenberg said the police released the thieves the next day. Mr Grobler was released from hospital the next day and also lodged a formal charge, because he was able to recognise the taxi-driver as the thief. SAPS capt. Retired criminal-trial advocate Tom Sawyer found murdered on farm South Africa Nov 2 2014 Retired criminal-law advocate Tom Sawyer 63 was bludgeoned, strangled and shot on his farm Oudehoutdraai near Greylingstad on Sunday-evening November 2 2014. The bedroom where he was found was locked on the inside. a large boulder was thrown into his bedroom. It's not known which of the injuries caused his death, police said. The gun-safes in the house were broken into and police suspect that guns may have been stolen, although they don't know for sure.Nothing else was 'robbed', even his car was untouched. His body was found by police early Monday morning after workers alerted his neighbour and friend Wynand Ambrosius. He said when the workers tried to gain access to the farm the security gates were locked and the workers could see from about 300 metres away that Sawyer's bedroom window was broken. They called Ambrosius and he called the police and rushed over. He had to cut open the lock of the gate. The police located Mr Sawyer's body - tied up with his hands behind his back, on the floor next to his bed. There were gunshot wounds in his upper body and a bloodied plank next to his body had police believe that he was bludgeoned with it, and there also were strangle-marks to his neck. The police said the bedroom door was locked from the inside and it's likely that the killers used the window they'd broken with a large boulder to enter and leave the room. Sawyer still did consulation-work at his practice at the EastRand. Reportedly his dog was still wandering around, very fearful, on Monday afternoon. "What happened on a road trip to Bloemfontein, to attend a Landbouweekblad conference to hear farmers telling each other how to farm. There are two ways to get from Gauteng to Bloem. One is via the N1 toll road. That is the wrong way. The right way could be any of many circuitous routes off the N1, it doesn’t matter which. Besides, the alternative route is excellent preparation for a farmers’ conference. You’ll see broken-down tractors, stray cattle and vast tracts of overgrazed veld and plains which may or may not become fields as the season progresses. DRY LAND CULTIVATION OF MAIZE PUTS FARMERS ON THE (DESTRUCTIVE TO TOP SOIL) MONSANTO ROUNDUP FERTILISER METHOD: The member’s preferred route takes him through Virginia, Theunissen and Brandfort in the northwestern Free State. It is here where dry-land maize is cultivated on an industrial scale, mostly white maize for the table, but also maize for animal feed: feedlot cattle feed and pig feed and chicken feed and more. It is here, when you to get to grips with the scale of 11-milllion tonnes of maize a year, that you realise that maize is what South Africans eat, even when you’re Banting down on a slab of fatty rib-eye steak (as part of your high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet). THIS IS WHERE THAT SAND-STORM CAME FROM: FARMERS ADVISED TO STOP PLOWING... OR TO STOP GROWING MAIZE TO STOP THEIR SOIL FROM BLOWING AWAY: And in case you wondered, this is from where the sand in the sandstorm came. Whole farms blew away in an afternoon in a cloud stretching from south of Bloem to north of Pretoria. That is more than 500km. It blew away because the preparation of dry-land maize fields require ripping and disking the soil over and over until all the organic matter is lost and the fields are depleted of nutrients. To fix that, about more than 300,000 tonnes a year of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium) are applied each year, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation. But weeds love fertiliser, which means they have to be killed, especially the nitrogen-thieving broadleaf varieties. For that, farmers apply Roundup, courtesy of Monsanto. Monsanto, of course, produces genetically modified maize (Roundup Ready), which is resistant to the killing effect of Roundup. In properly treated fields, nothing except genetically modified maize grows there. It is expensive. It is so expensive subsistence farmers can afford neither the patented, genetically modified seeds nor the herbicide and the fertiliser — and industrial maize farmers cannot afford not to buy into the perfect commercial storm and into the cultivation system that will produce SA’s very own Dust Bowl. --- Anthony Muirhead, a KwaZulu-Natal farmer and champion of the no-till cultivation method, told the conference the answer is not to plough at all. He has the theatrics and the slides to prove it but, then again, it rains a bit more in Muirhead’s Winterton district than in the western Free State and he, too, is locked into the unsustainable Roundup trap. Organic farming — that is, farming by feeding the soil and not the plant and without pesticides of any kind — is not the answer, Stephanus Malherbe of ZZ2 (the tomato people) told the conference. ZZ2 tried and tried but there was no profit in it, he said, so it switched to "nature farming", in which the use of harmful chemicals is kept to a minimum. -- Really? At today’s prices, no self-respecting farmer will overdose his fields. In the member’s mind, ZZ2’s operation is no different from a well-run chemical farm anywhere, and just as unsustainable. Clearly, we cannot look to farmers to feed us sustainably if they continue feeding us on maize. The obvious thing to do is for consumers to stop eating maize and maize-fed animal products. Our farmers are an innovative lot. Surgery had to be moved recently from the Block 3 theatre because of water pouring from the ceiling. Sewage flows from the ceiling at the paediatric clinic in Block Two on the fifth floor. This is especially disturbing as there are tiny babies at this clinic with poor immunity who have not yet been vaccinated. The newly-opened Natalspruit Hospital has also had plumbing problems, including a flow in August from the ceiling in children's ward 5. These maintenance breakdowns are unacceptable. The problem is poor planning not a lack of budget as the Gauteng Health Department failed to spend R538.5 million for capital projects last year. He took a shortcut past the Oval Track which would bring him out by the Hardwick Street Bridge, a shortcut he takes almost every day. “I had almost reached the bridge when I saw two guys jump out of the bushes and tell another guy who was walking in front of me to give them his phone,” said Andrè. “Then they came for me.” Andrè then told his chilling tale of how both men, armed with knives, approached him demanding he hand over his cellular phone. But bravely, he refused.“I told them no,” he said. “It was my phone, and I did not want them to have it.”A struggle ensued, and one of the men pushed Andrè.“I lost my balance and fell down the small embankment. While I was on my back, they both came for me again.”On his back, the young man still valiantly fought to hold on to his phone. It was during this time, that Andrè sustained no less than 11 wounds.“I didn’t feel a thing. I was just concentrating on keeping my phone. It was in my right hand and the one guy kept trying to grab it out of my hand. They even stepped on my face,” he said.Not deterred, Andrè continued to struggle. The terrified Snyman then locked himself, his daughter, wife and grandmother inside the house and contacted the EPR's armed reaction unit before taking the two woman to the emergency department of the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital with his daughter. Little Annabelle was given trauma treatment and during the 'play-acting session' it became clear to the adults that the child had seen everything, that she had hidden in an empty horse-stall which contained saw-dust bales, and that she too was able to identify the attacker as the man who had worked for the family for a long time. Isabel Mansfield was released from hospital after she received treatment and is now recovering at home.
