Deon Buitendag 50, stabbed four times in Alberton while stopping his bakkie on corner of Vereeniging- and Potgieters streets. And his wife Claire 51 was attacked at exactly the same spot a day later...
November 6 2014 - In broad daylight at 10am Buitendag was accosted by a mob of blacks while he was chasing a black man who had grabbed one of his vending-machines from the back of his bakkie.
AFRIKAANS REPORT:

Government neglect: None of the ANC's poverty-reduction programmes include benefits to poor-whites (mostly Afrikaners) - study
FLASHBACK - May 31 2010 - PRETORIA. The more than 800,000 poor whites (in 2009) - mostly Afrikaners - obtain no benefits from the ANC-regime's 'Poverty Reduction Programme. "
(NOTE: by November 2014 it has become crystal-clear that the ANC-regime has never included the 'white' citizens of South Africa into its plans for the future: local ANC-regime-run town councils such as Krugersdorp's, make decisions which deliberately endanger the lives of poor-whites: for instance by forcibly removing them to live on garbage-dumps, in dangerously ramshackle housing without any of the basic services which South Africans are entitled to under the constitution such as free clean water, sanitation facilities and free access to public schools. Afrikaners from empoverished communities are discriminated against in all walks of life, and often denied hospital treatment, denied the basic right to be taken by a government ambulance to public hospitals, and their children are denied an education in their own home language of Afrikaans. Solidarity trade union announced in November 2014 that they have approached the United Nations with a formal complaint about the more than 110 black-racist anti-whtie discrimination laws passed through the South African government's Black Economic Empowerment Act and similar laws).
This was the finding of a study by the Umsobomvu Youth Fund, UYF, which was handed to South African Jacob Zuma during his personal visit to one of the 'poor white' communities in Pretoria at the Bethlehem squatter camp. Zuma was invited by Solidarity trade union to investigate the situation at the white squatter camps personally.
-- (The Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF) has fused with the National Youth Commission (NYC) and is currently known as the "National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).
--- Their study found in 2009 that NONE of the South African regime's community poverty-reduction programmes provide any benefits or support to poor whites.
The national and provincial Youth Commissions of Zuma's own government were unable to identify ANY community-based organisations which were applying government funds to 'poor white areas'. Zuma visited the Bethlehem camp before, in July 2008, and revisited it on May 31 2010. He spoke to some 1,000 poor Afrikaners who were assembled at the camp for his visit. The then-premier of the 'Gauteng' (Transvaal) province Numvula Mokonyane, the mayor of Pretoria Gwen Ramokgopa and several ANC-ministers also accompanied Zuma to the meeting.
The former Usobomvu Youth Fund undertook the study in April 2009 to 'identify the core challenges for poor-whites in South Africa.' The study was never formally presented to the government but was made available to Solidarity's Helping Hand non-profit group so that the study could be handed to Zuma personally.
"According to this study, not even one poor-white community could be found which benefited from the South African government's 29,966 poverty-reduction programmes countrywhite. White communities do not 'have priority' when applying for child-benefits or benefits for the disabled. The government's 'affirmative action programme' which gives preference to poor blacks is also worsening the poverty of the white community even more."
Helping Hand's spokesman Dirk Hermann said 'from this study in 2008 it was made very clear that 'white South Africans' are being increasingly marginalised. The government's poverty-reduction programme must also provide opportunities to provide grants to the development and basic survival-support of the poor whites,' warned Hermann. The study showed that the average monthly income per family in poor-white suburbs such as Danville and Claremont in Pretoria West, for instance, ranged from R500 to R3,000. The majority of these mostly Afrikaner residents in these areas have little formal education and almost never can afford school-fees or school-clothes. The largest challenge in these poor-white communities is the high dropout rate in schools because of the inability of parents to pay school fees, -clothes and -books. The unemployment level is high due to the black-economic-empowerment laws of the South African government, which removes 'whites' from the entire job-market with a large variety of laws barring whites from engaging in economic activities to help their families survive.
The government's educational bursaries are entirely focused on 'previously advantaged (black, coloured and Indian) communities.
"The general conclusion is that the government is deliberately denying poor white South Africans any rights to government benefits, and is denying them financing and skills-training only because they are whites.'
Government officials claim to be 'unaware of white poverty' and the government officials do not make any efforts to include the white (Afrikaners) of South Africa into its future planning. The government is using racial discrimination to drive a wedge between South African communities for political reasons.'

Two pipe-bomb explosions injure two unknown men at Suiderberg, Pretoria West site
Two unknown males were injured when two homemade pipe-bombs exploded at a Suiderberg, Pretoria West site:
http://maroelamedia.co.za/blog/nuus/suid-afrika/nog-n-ontploffing-ruk-weste-van-pta/
Nov 7 2014 - SAPS warrant officer Wanda Olivier confirmed that two men, aged 44 and 54, whose identities are known, were allegedly experimenting with homemade bombs inside a car at an open site. "The bombs almost look like pipebombs filled with metal shards and screws'.
One bomb exploded inside their car and another one a few metres away from the car. "The men were slightly injured and taken under police-protection to the Kalafong Hospital. The car sustained considerable damage'.
The two men are facing trial for manufacturing illegal bombs and will appear in court upon their discharge from hospital. Their motive for making the bombs also is being investigated. A black foreign man also was killed and another injured on 20 October at a scrapyard in Rebecca Street West of Pretoria when they tried to dismantle an 'antique' bomb and it exploded. It's said that this explosion was 'an accident' but there's no knowledge of where the bomb came from: it had been handed in for cash at the scrap yard by two illegal Somali migrants. There is a large Somali community in this area and local Afrikaner residents have expressed worries about their safety due to these activities.

Survived: wife horribly tortured with cattle-prod: Magda and Andrew Smit, 74, Pietersburg
Magda and Andrew Smit, Pietersburg, Nov 6 2014: attacked, tortured by five black males
PIETERSBURG, Welgelegen: Nov 6 2014"Mrs Magda Smit and her husband Andrew were attacked by five black gunmen and horribly tortured.
Mrs Smit said that while the blacks were giving her electric shocks with a cattle-prod, she kept praying that she would not be gang-raped.
The Afrikaner couple were watching the TV programme 'Boer seeks wife' and didn't realize that when they heard the gate next to the house shut closed, the five attackers were cutting the burglar bars and had crawled into the house headed for the bedroom. When the dogs inside the house started barking three of the five gunmen tacked Andrew in the hallway. The couple's hands were tied with cable ties, their mouths gagged and taped up. They cut the cables off the TV and hair-dryer and used them to tie Andrew's feet together. "They threw me on the floor of the bedroom and threw a duvet over me. One of these thugs sat on top of me all the time, beating me and pushing an Okapi-knife against my throat while the other men were torturing my wife in the front room, I kept worrying about what they were doing to her,' said Andrew. His jaw-bone and two ribs were broken while he was beaten and he sustained a damaged liver from the ordeal, too.
Magda had recently undergone back surgery. The couple said the five blacks were English speaking and did not wear any masks. "They kept asking for money and diamonds (?) and threw all the ammunition from the safe, stealing Andrew's pistol and revolver, 17 collectors' knivbes, jewellery and money - they even took the cash from my wallet,' said Magda.
At one stage during their long ordeal, one man pulled Andrew up from the floor and beat him with a fist so that he fell on the bed. "I pretended to be unconscious. When I realized I was alone in the room I tried to push the emergency button behind the bed post but could not reach it. I kept trying even though I was hurting very badly and when the alarm started ringing the thugs fled, said Andrew.
The couple now has invested heavily in added security measures which include an electrified fence and security equipment. Andrew was kidnapped twice in Pietersburg and said they were 'reasonably security-aware but we got a bit lax'.
He said the community policing Forum CPF volunteers reacted very quickly with the police and the Mediclinic Limpopo's service was 'professional and neat'.
|"We cannot thank the community enough for all their help. Even motorbikers from a local club showed up and chased the attackers until they disappeared amongst the train-track near Magna Via and Eduan Park.
The Edwel GPF chairman Trevor Van Niekerk also thanked the police for their quick reaction time.
SAPS spokesman Lesiba Ramoshaba '' confirmed the incident' and said no arrests were made.
They did not issue any identity-kits or calls for the community to try and help find the torturers of the Afrikaner couple. From this story it's not clear whether the thugs fled with their loot or whether they left it behind in their hurry to get away.
The SAPS did find 'field signs' at the scene which were placed by criminals and may have pointed to the Smit couple's home - leading to the attack.
A folded-up wire at the scene indicated that there was a 'safe inside the house' and a green piece of wool was a field sign indicating that the Smits were 'easy targets'and that the attack could 'continue.'

Port Edward is a small resort town situated on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, right on the Eastern Cape Province border.
Port Edward is a tourist resort for seasonal visitors from more affluent regions of South Africa. The coastline between here and Port Shepstone to the north is popularly known as the Hibiscus Coast because of its lush sub-tropical gardens. There are many tourist seasons that influence Port Edward but the most significant is the Christmas / New Year period spanning from early December to mid-
January. Port Edward's Silver Beach hosts an annual New Year's Eve party frequented by youths whilst on New Year's Day itself, families populate the beach for continued celebrations. Another main season coincides with the Sardine run natural phenomenon usually occurring from late May to mid-July.
History
In 1831 a large group of white English-speaking settlers was massacred by King Dingane's Zulus. Some of the English settlers managed to flee on board a ship in the harbour - others including the well-known settler Henry Francis Fynn and his family, fled down the coast. The Zulu 'warriors' caught up with them where Port
Edward is today and massacred the fleeing settlers, which also included their tribal enemies, the Langeni, on a hill called Isandlundlu (in English, shaped like a hut). The place has been known ever since as Tragedy Hill and its slopes are still littered with the bones of the victims.
In 1552, the Portuguese carrick "Sao Joao" ran aground at Port Edward and this is the first time in recorded history that peoples from Europe met black African people who were moving from the Great Lakes in Middle-Africa into Southern Africa at that time. In 1878, the ship "The Ivy" ran aground on Leisure Bay area beach. In 1925, the area was partly owned by TK Pringle, and he named the inland portion Banner Rest as this was where he wished to "strike his banner". The village
was laid out and was named Port Edward in honour of the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII.

Government neglect death: DA councillor Ken DeNysschen electrocuted: ANC cadre deployment strikes again
Electrocution of DA councillor Ken Denysschen: Cadre deployment strikes again
http://www.biznews.com/opinion/boardroom-talk/2014/11/08/electrocution-of-da-councillor-ken-denysschen-cadre-deployment-strikes-again/
November 8, 2014 in Boardroom Talk
Ken Denysschen – a Don Quixote in dysfunctional rural South Africa
It’s a reflection of the challenges in our society that in the past few years I’ve attended many more funerals than christenings. The funerals were mostly of those
who passed on before reaching their allotted three score years and ten – mostly killed by stress-related illnesses or unnatural causes. The dearth of christenings
is because children of our friends are scattered to all parts of the world. As are mine. I will be in Europe next week to see my elder daughter graduate from her
Irish university. So, sadly, will not attend the funeral of the late Ken Denysschen. But will be there in spirit. And shall never forget Mooi River’s finest. Because
Ken was a unique human being, a courageous crusader, a servant of his constituency who believed the South African Constitution gave him the right to demand
better. He fearlessly exposed corruption and incompetence in the town we called home from 2010 to 2012. The manner of his death says much about the state of
rural South Africa. There are not many other places in the civilised world where the Candidate would himself have to hang his political party’s posters. And none,
surely, where neglect of infrastructure is so obvious that he was killed doing this task. We lived on the same Giant’s Castle Road where Ken died. Our old farm,
Graceland, was just two kilometres further away from the town. We were forced to relocate back to Johannesburg after copper cable thieves stole Telkom lines
three times in a fortnight. You cannot run a radio programme or an Internet publisher without connectivity. Just like any sane person cannot seriously believe
they’re running a country correctly when live electricity wires dangle from street poles, ready to kill any unfortunate who brushes against them. The ANC’s policy
of cadre deployment above merit has sowed destruction everywhere. Not just in the economy. We can now add Ken Denysschen’s name to the long list of
needless victims. – AH

FAMILY, friends and residents of Mooi River are struggling to come to terms with the tragic death of former DA Councillor Ken Denysschen.
Close friend Rick Fell said he cannot get over the fact that his death came about as a result of the town’s crumbling infrastructure, “the very issue that Ken fought
so hard for and in vain, to get the municipality to sort out”.
The pole on Giant's Castle Road outside of Mooi Rover where Ken Denysschen was electrocuted. Members of the public stop to pay their respects.
The pole on Giant’s Castle Road outside of Mooi Rover where Ken Denysschen was electrocuted. Members of the public stop to pay their respects.
Denysschen was electrocuted late on Thursday afternoon after he touched a live cable wrapped around a pole while putting up election posters for the town’s
by-election on November, 26. The election is to be held after the previous dysfunctional council, wracked by in-fighting and service delivery woes, was dissolved
and the municipality placed under administration.
Fell said he went to the municipality to see the municipal manager Max Moyo and the administrator Buhle Ally. “They were not there. I left messages and they
haven’t contacted me.”
Denysschen’s lifeless body was found by Alan and Debbie Stratford. They were driving into Mooi River when they saw his van and the ladder propped up the
pole. The Stratfords stopped, thinking he may have fallen off the ladder. As they approached, they saw his arm was burnt and realised he had been electrocuted.
Fellow DA member Moira Gruenenberg believes his death was due to negligence. She said it was unacceptable to have a live wire hanging on a lamp pole.
Fell said it has been hardest for Denysschen’s son Shawn, who is in matric this year. He wrote a paper yesterday morning, hours after his father’s death.
The former councillor’s traumatised partner Lisa was sedated by her doctor.
Fell said they were waiting for Denysschen’s brother to arrive from Australia before finalising funeral arrangements. He said Denysschen’s other son lived in
Pietermaritzburg and he had a daughter in New Zealand.
Denysschen died three months after his father whom he was named after. Ken Denysschen Sr., renowned as a top footballer, died in August when Mooi River was
rocked by community protests with roads blockaded with burning tyres.
In a blog on finance journalist Alec Hogg’s Biznews.com, Denysschen describes trying to find out about the welfare of residents in Bruntville before rushing off to
Durban to arrange his father’s funeral.
Hogg described him saying, “Denysschen Junior has clearly inherited his famous footballing father’s courage. He pens a regular newsletter to constituents,
exposing the inner workings of a set-up so incompetent that would be laughable were it not so reflective of Small Town South Africa.”
KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Nomusa Dube-Ncube said she was both shocked and saddened by Denysschen’s death.
Dube-Ncube said Denysschen died in the cause of duty, willing to put himself forward as a servant of the people of Mooi-Mpofana. “He will be sorely missed …”
Despite leaving messages with the staff for Moyo and Ally to contact Weekend Witness, there was no response by the time of going to press.
Denysschen had been DA councillor at Mpofana Municipality since 2011. After a career in the corporate world, he became an entrepreneur, first opening a
restaurant business and later moving into the micro lending sector in Newcastle. He opened a second branch of his micro lending business in Mooi River in 2006.
He joined the Mpofana Ratepayers and Residents Association in 2008 and served in various roles, including as chairperson from 2010 until 2011.

Survived: unidentified family attacked on Kuilsrivier WC farm reports Bassett Alarms:
Bassett Alarms reports an armed attack on Kuilsrivier farm by two black males: security company secured crime scene until police arrived, and also recovered 'robbed' vehicle: the unidentified white family was physically unharmed but traumatised:
http://www.bassettalarms.co.za/watchdog/crime-trends/kuilsriver
08/11/2014 At around 23h14 Response Officer Vermeulen was stopped by a very emotional lady at a Fuel Garage in SonEike, Kuilsriver, she explained to him that her mother had been attacked on their farm on the corner of Bottelary and Stellenbosch road. Officer Vermeulen radioed the incident in for back up, Officer Wiese came his assistance straight away. Together they escorted the lady to the farm. Our Operations Manager, Mark Horstman was also notified of the incident. Upon their arrival at the farm, Officer Wiese requested that our Bassett Central Station contact the SAPS to come investigate.
The lady and her son-in-law’s father greeted our Officers at the entrance of the main house. She explained to them that at around 22h45 two black suspect males wearing balaclavas entered their front door both armed with pistols. They demanded her vehicle keys and tied her up with electrical wires. She pleaded with them to not hurt her. They said they won’t if she keeps quiet then covered her with a blanket. They proceeded to ransack the house, taking TV’s, jewellery, Play Stations, cash and all the vehicle keys. They made their escape in the resident’s Mitsubishi Pajero.
She managed to untie herself and contacted her daughter and son’s father-in-law. Officer Wiese immediately gave the registration number of the Mitsubishi to our Bassett’s Central Station to inform the SAPS. Operations Manager, Horstman contacted the tracking company with the vehicle’s details, they recovered the vehicle in Kyamandi 17 minutes after our Officer’s stood down.
The SAPS arrived at 23h55 and our Officers handed the undisturbed crime scene over to the Officers in charge. The lady who was tied up did not want any medical assistance, she had bruise marks on her wrists but no other bodily harm was incurred. Well done to our Officers and Operations Manager Horstman, great team work! http://www.bassettalarms.co.za/watchdog/crime-trends/kuilsriver
The company also is engaged in many pro-active patrols to prevent farm attacks in the rural areas of Kuilsrivier/Durbanville. In September several suspected farm attacks were thwarted by their preventative patrolling.

Killer of Lee Bennett on 21 Nov 1995 in Parkmore, found hiding under fake identity in Vryheid
After 20 years, the killer of Lee Bennett, identified by his then 10yo daughter Samantha as Martin Ngema on 21 November 1995, was found hiding under a fake identity: http://www.netwerk24.com/nuus/2014-11-09-moordenaar-staan-uit-die-dood-uit-op
Johannesburg High Court, Nov 2014: After 20 years a man suspected of killing Lee Bennett with a headshot in the driveway of Sandon Road Parkmore, has been found hiding under a fake identity. Martin Ngema (then 23) appeared in Johannesburg High court this week after he had been picked up as Alfred Sibusiso Ngema on a charge of reckless driving. When his fingerprints were taken, police realized they had the accused killer of Lee Bennett in custody. Just after the cold-blooded killing, Bennett's ten-year-old daughter Samantha didn't hesitate when she pointed out the man who killed her dead to detective Piet Byleveld. Ngema was discovered after he managed to have himself 'disappear' by creating a fake identity and falsifying a death certificate.
Ngema's fingerprints also were found in the red VW Golf with which he and two co-accused Johannes Matli and Nhlandhla Madia had fled after shooting the white Parkmore man.
Shortly before the trial in 1997 Ngema - suspected with the help of a police officer and a falsified signature - managed to escape from jail on 'bail' granted by a magistrate.
Then Ngema faked his own death-certificate and with a slight change in his identity number, obtained a new identity from the HOme Affairs department.
"The Late Martin Nkosenye Ngema' became "Alfred Sibusiso Ngema". In November 2013, his past caught up with him when he ws arrested for reckless driving.
And Ngema was only caught because his fake 'death' had never been registered in the SA Police records.
His 'new life' was revealed: he had spent years learning salesmanship at a car-dealership in Vryheid - and even became salesman of the year several times.
He now is a director of the black-economic-empowerment company Indlela Yomnotho Trading and Projects and contracts his services to the eThekwini-municipality.
He also purchased several properties in town. His manager vehemently denied that the man arrested by the police could possibly have been a killer. 'Not Alfred. He's a great, open-hearted guy, ' said his manager. In his view it was simply 'unthinkable' that Ngema was one of the three blacks who attacked Lee Bennett and his ten-year-old-daughter 20 years ago...

ANC-concentration camp: sixty Afrikaner families have now been forcibly removed to dangerous shacks in Munsieville
ANC Concentration-Camp South Africa: 60 of the 300 Afrikaner families being forcibly removed now have been 'integrated' on a 'former' garbage-dump next to the black township of Munsieville -- in poorly-raised shacks which are not even safe for dogs: without floors, the shacks are ramshackle and held up by tree-branches inserted only a few inches into the dirt. There is no water, there are no toilets, there is no electricity laid on by the Krugersdorp municipality to this 'poor-white' community: even though under the constitution, 'the poor' are entitled to basic amounts of clean water, electricity and reticulated toilet facilities. Volunteer-help is urgently needed to rebuild these shacks safely and BUILDING MATERIALS are urgently needed so that volunteers can install floors.
Nov 8 2014: At the moment the shacks in which the ANC-regime is "rehousing' poor Afrikaners from their Kroningspark camp to the Munsieville concentration camp - as can be seen on the pictures - are held up by ramshackle branches inserted a few inches into the filthy soil. The site is located on a so-called 'sanitised former' garbage dump very near the black township of Munsieville.
Contact Lizet Bodenstein - they will fetch the building materials needed to rebuild the shacks and install floors. Telephone 082-255-2949 also if you want to volunteer to help install the floors and rebuild the shacks to minimum safety-standards for housing human beings. There are many children amongst these 'integrated' families.
This forced-removal is being referred to by the ruling ANC party as 'integration'. http://pic.twitter.com/93wB1br0sE

Land invasion: MP Julius Malema's EFF party invades former farm Nellmapius which was sold to Pretoria city council
Nov 11 2014 MP Julius Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters' land-grab policy kicked off in Pretoria yesterday when their local thugs led an invasion of 3000 locals onto council-owned land earmarked for low-cost housing. The thugs want to rename the 'reclaimed land' Malemaville'.. The land was productive farm-land before a white farmer had sold it to the city council under duress. Some 60 families already lived on it: they had worked for the farmer and stayed on after he left his homestead. The party's Nellmapius ward 86 organised local people to "Malemaville" but the exercise ended in blood and broken bones when the Pretoria traffic-cops fired rubber bullets.
About 3000 people had queued in the rain to get their names on the EFF's list of people to be given land along the N4 highway.
More than 100 portions were "allocated'. Willy Kubayi, 31, who queued for a piece of land, paid a heavy price. His upper lip was torn when he was shot in the face at close range by the police as he ran for cover. A woman in her 40s fell and broke a leg as the running crowd trampled on her. After the shooting people blockaded the road with tyres and rocks.
The local metro cops spokesman Isaac Mahamba was tightlipped about the number of people actually injured. ""We cannot allow people to occupy land illegally. We are monitoring the situation to make sure no land invasion occurs," he said. EFF branch chairma n Vusi Msiza planned the takeover and named the land after party leader Julius Malema.
"People have nowhere to stay but there is plenty of empty land. We are implementing the EFF policy of expropriation of land and we will fight to stay on that land," he said.
Msiza said he had told the party's Tshwane regional chairman and Gauteng legislature chief whip Benjamin Disolwana about his branch's "programme of action".
An ANC member who travelled from Kwaggafontein, in Mpumalanga, to claim land said she supported EFF policies.
"EFF policies are best for the poor and I like that they are not cowards - they stand up for what they believe in," she said, asking not to be named.
Next year, says the local EFF branch, it will implement the party policy of free education - pupils will not pay school fees.
Steve Msiza said local EFF supporters wanted their branch of the party to be the first to implement the party's policies and other branches should follow suit.
He said the EFF would use force if necessary to collect report cards from schools at the end of this year if they are being withheld for non-payment of school fees.
"We are the first to implement the expropriation of land without compensation, and free education; other branches will follow. These are the policies of the party. We do not need the national leadership to tell us to start implementing," he said.
EFF land and education "policies' call for the transfer of all white land ownership to the state and free education up to undergraduate level.
They don't have a policy for the mass production of food, however - concentrating on selling empty sites to homeless black foreigners.
Neither Malema nor EFF spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi could be reached for comment.
Pretoria University of Technology political analyst Levy Ndou said yesterday that a party could implement policies only if it were in power and had consulted the citizenry.
"What they are doing is illegal and politically wrong. Only a party in government can implement policies. We need to educate our people that they can participate in policy making but cannot implement it," he said.Local ANC councillor Precious Marole said the EFF was taking people for "a ride", creating drama to attract attention.
"The EFF is misbehaving. They will never occupy that land."They made people queue in the rain for nothing. I am going to call a community meeting to make that clear," Marole said.

Then a police recovery team discovers another body of a man, also murdered:

“Send down two body bags, there is another body down here!” Two bodies were discovered after a black man who hijacked a man told police that they had dumped their victim in an mine shaft. Middelburg Observer journalist Jana Boshoff 10 November 2014 The victim, who lived in Bronkhorstpruit, was hi-jacked near Middelburg last week Tuesday 03 November. The rescue team set out early the morning, following a footpath winding through a patch of dense black wattle trees, that led them to the daunting 50 metre drop, a sudden gaping hole in the ground.Along the way discarded personal documents like payslips, a passport, bank card and a belt found at the edge of the shaft, were subconsciously preparing the team for what they were going to find at the bottom of the shaft. An unnamed safety officer on the scene said that the hole was made by miners in the 1890’s.“We went down one of the shafts and you can still see where they mined the coal with pickaxes. Those people were not stupid. How they knew that there were coal down there is beyond me.” Two similar shafts not far from the third one, were filled up. This one, allegedly belonging to a different mining company, was left unattended. It is said that the victim was thrown down the mine shaft alive, with his hands tied behind his back. The police team were led to the shaft by the suspect, who admitted to the crime the night before. The team had to go back to get a stronger flashlight before looking down the shaft and making the grizzly discovery. At the bottom of the shaft lay the body of a man.The next day the sun reduced the shaft into a seemingly impenetrable black hole, one that even a flashlight couldn’t illuminate. A black hole that a rescue worker would soon descend into.It took the rescue team hours to plan, assemble, plan some more and reassemble enough ropes, anchor points and safety equipment to make sure that the body of the man they came to retrieve, will be the last victim of the daunting mine shaft. The first member of the rescue team, Sergeant Leon Harrington, was slowly let down the shaft by rope. As he touched the side of the shaft, boulders came loose and made faint explosive sounds as they hit the bottom.“Control your breathing! Easy on the breathing!” the head of operations yelled to the disappearing Sergeant Harrington.

The first member of the rescue team, Sergeant Leon Harrington, was slowly let down the shaft by rope. As he touched the side of the shaft, boulders came loose and made faint explosive sounds as they hit the bottom.
“Control your breathing! Easy on the breathing!” the head of operations yelled to the disappearing Sergeant Harrington.
It was when he finally reached the bottom that the muffled call came: “There are two bodies down here!”.
“I suspected that this was not the first person they threw down that hole. You can see by all the personal items we found, that this was their dumping place. The place they came to get rid of all the unwanted items in the cars they hi-jacked, like documents and people,” a policeman, who would like to stay anonymous, said.
A second rescuer, carrying a stretcher and the requested amount of body bags, went down after Sergeant Harrington has moved out of the way of falling rocks.
The men spent a little less than two hours down the shaft. Putting the decaying bodies into bags and strapping the first body into the stretcher to be brought up.
by a team of policemen and members of the fire department. The stench was almost unbearable. The body was found with hands and feet tied together. There was a material bag pulled over the victim’s head. The second rescue worker brought the second victim to the surface.
But the operation was only half complete. Al the ropes and equipment had to be retrieved and packed up without any injury. The team met in front of the police station at 09:00.
The last body was brought up at around 14:30. Exhaustion was visible on the faces of the whole team, but especially on those of the two men who went down the shaft.
I left shortly after the team came together to congratulate each other on the successful retrieval, and cautioned each other that the danger was not over and yet more concentration was needed during the packing up of the gear.
“If you fall down that hole, that’s it. Your wife and children can come put flowers at the edge, because that will be your grave.”
• Police were assisted by highly trained volunteers from the mining industry. Certain members of the rescue team asked not to be identified.
• The suspects are expected to appear in court today (Monday). Read more about them, the crimes they are suspected to have committed and the rage of one of the identified victim’s family in our Tuesday edition, on sale in Middelburg this afternoon.

The men accused of throwing two people down a deserted mine shaft have appeared in the Middelburg court.
Jana Boshoff 10 November 2014 16:03
George Maswangany, Samson Makawa and a third man whose name was not known on Monday afternoon, face two charges of murder, two of kidnapping, two for robbery with aggravating circumstances and one for possession of stolen property. It is suspected that more accused may be added to the list. The men had their case postponed until a later date for a formal bail appearance. The state prosecutor, San Barto, asked for no pictures to be published at this stage due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
Rescue workers discovered two bodies of white men in a deserted mine shaft on Sunday 09 November, after one of the accused confessed to doing so when questioned about the suspected stolen car he and his mates were arrested in.
The man led a police search party to the mine shaft on Saturday night and a rescue team set out early on Sunday morning to look for the bodies.
One of the victims, from Bronkhorstspruit, was hi-jacked near Middelburg on Tuesday night. Another is suspected to be a man reported missing some weeks ago.
The daughter of one of the deceased wrote to the Middelburg Observer pleading for something to be done about the escalating crime in the area.

Thief's excuse: "I am stealing a white person's car": Mrs Estelle Schoeman's car stolen with remote control by Mxolisi Rakgalakale
‘I am stealing a white person’s car’ black thief's excuse after stealing Estelle Schoeman's car at Wonderpark Centre
Mxolisi Rakgalakale was captured by Middelburg taxi-drivers.
A thief who allegedly tried to steal a car with a remote was nabbed at Wonderpark Centre.
Naledi Malekane 6 October 2014
Taxi drivers spotted a suspicious man fiddling in a Mercedes Benz and they approached him.
“I am stealing a white person’s car,” was the suspect’s excuse when the the taxi drivers confronted him. When asked how he got into the car, he explained that he used a remote control to block the signal when the owner of the car locked her car with her own remote control.
The car of Mrs Estelle Schoeman was parked outside the Wimpy.
The taxi drivers saw the woman helping her disabled child out of the car earlier and assume that the thief took advantage of that.
Mrs Schoeman was inside the Wimpy when she saw the commotion next to her car. When she went outside an off duty policeman told her that a thief was caught red handed trying to steal her car.She was shocked. Mrs Schoeman said that she was travelling from Nelspruit to her home in Vereeniging and stopped at the Wimpy in Walter Sisulu Street to get something to eat.“I truly appreciate the Middelburg community’s efforts” she said that she “wonders if the Vereeniging community would have done the same.”“My lesson out of this is to always double check if my car is locked, even if the flickers went on and off,” she added
Mr Steven ‘Vulindlela’ Mnisi, a taxi driver, is one if the men who caught the suspect. He warns people not to leave valuable goods visible in cars, and to always double check because the usage of the remote control gadget is a trend.“I urge the public to assist in crime prevention as people need it,” said Mr Mnisi.
The Observer has written several stories on incidents where a remote control was used to block the signal.
• Mxolisi Rakgalakale appeared in court on Friday 4 October. An attempted theft of motor vehicle case is being investigated. The case is postponed to 7 October for formal bail application.

Survives: Psychologist Leif Brauteseth was injured by stone-throwing rioters at Rob Ferreira Hospital
Rioters locked the gates at Rob Ferreira Hospital on November 11 2014 refusing to let patients and ambulances inside and refusing to let doctors who completed their shifts take their cars to go home.
Bystanders reported that psychologist Leif Brauteseth, picture, was injured when he was thrown with stones while trying to get out the gates.
Ambulance personnel describes the scene as 'chaotic' and said when they tried to take their patients to the Mediclinic Hospital, a private hospital nearby, they were also turned away.
The 'reason' submitted for the rioting was that cleaners had not been paid for six months by the ANC-regime.
