Farm owner Manuel da Costa's valuable stud lifestock mutilated at Manjoh Ranch in cruel 'initiation practice'.
NIGEL - A cow was hacked to death and the heel tendons of three Beefmaster stud cows severed in a brutal onslaught at Manjoh Ranch in the early hours of the morning on July 4.
Magda Maritz reports that farm owner Manuel da Costa described the incident to HERAUT as an initiation practice exercised by certain ethnic groups. Where almost every culture has a customonial ritual, great diversity still exists in what initiation ceremonies truly consist of.
Manuel immediately alerted the police after farm workers made the horrific discovery. As a result of tendon cutting, the cows subsequently had to be slaughtered. “What type of person does this to an animal?” Manuel asked in disbelief.
"While the likelihood of a traditional initiation process may be considered, police are investigating a case of cattle theft "and will follow up on all leads to bring the perpetrators to justice.
