Die slagoffer, mnr. Hendrik Retief, 53, is waarskynlik vroeg gisteroggend vermoor, maar sy liggaam is eers gisteraand teen sononder deur ‘n kollega in sy huis in Jan van Riebeeckstraat, Pretoria-Noord, ontdek.
Retief was baie stiptelik en pligsgetrou en daarom het ‘n kollega by die kerk onraad begin vermoed toe hy sonder enige tyding nie vir werk opdaag nie.
Pastoor David de Lange van die kerk sê: “Hy (die kollega) het toe na Hendrik se huis toe gegaan om te gaan kyk of alles reg is. In die huis het hy op Retief se lyk afgekom.”
SAPS lt-kol Khensane Magoai, het verklaar dat Retief se hande en voete vasgebind was. Daar is nog nie vasgestel wat sy dood veroorsaak het nie.
Retief het alleen gewoon en word deur twee susters oorleef. Een van sy susters was gisteraand op die toneel van die moord.
“Al wat ek kan sê, is dat dit tragies is,” het sy gesê.
Pastoor De Lange sê: “Hy het eers saam met sy ma daar gewoon, maar sy is sowat drie jaar gelede dood.
“Hy was ’n goeie mens wat altyd op sy eie was. Ek het van hom gehou omdat hy so rustig was. Hy het altyd gedink voordat hy gepraat het.”

December 28 2014. The South African Medical Association is urging hospitals and clinics to ensure medical workers are provided with the N95 mask.
Durban - With the death of Dr Nerissa Pather from a drug-resistant strain of TB, many in the medical community are calling for more to be done to fight the disease and for safer working environments.
Dr Pather contracted multidrug-resistant TB in 2002 while completing her community service at a KwaMashu clinic in KwaZulu-Natal. Spinal TB paralysed her until her death.
The South African Medical Association (Sama) extended its “heartfelt condolences” to her husband and family.
“The loss of a doctor to a communicable disease contracted in the course of duty is an incalculable tragedy. We have seen this repeated many times in the Ebola viral disease outbreak. This time, however, it strikes far closer to home. TB continues to ravage our country and the risk to all healthcare workers remains,” said Dr Phophi Ramathuba, president of Sama.
The Sunday Tribune spoke to doctors working in public hospitals and found most believed the situation was dangerous. One, who has been serving at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital for the past year, believed the safety measures at public hospitals were insufficient and felt under threat. She asked not to be named as she is not authorised to speak to the press.
“One of my colleagues contracted TB a month ago as well. We are not safe. As much as our job is to save lives, we also need to be protected. Protocol is often not followed at public hospita, and this is a problem,” she said.
She said that she was always exposed to needles and the risk of contracting HIV because 80 percent of the patients she treated were HIV-positive.
“Sometimes we run out of safety equipment and have to make use of the little resources we have. This also puts us at risk. These types of incidents can be prevented if the correct measures are taken,” she said.
Another doctor working at Stanger Hospital, who also asked not to be named, agreed.
“It’s a tricky situation for doctors. We are caught between saving lives and protecting ourselves. We are exposed to all kinds of diseases.
“There was once a shortage of surgical gloves in my department. As ridiculous as it sounds, I had to wait for gloves to get to me and there was a patient desperately in need of my assistance. What do we do in a situation like this?” the doctor asked.
Dr Indira Govender, who has been serving in Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola with MSF (Doctors Without Borders), described it as “tragic” that doctors and nurses in South Africa were being infected with TB through occupational exposure.
“The personal protective equipment is available and should be easily accessible in all health facilities. Infection control measures must be prioritised, especially in places with an excessive incidence of TB. There are many good examples of facility-based innovations in some provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape,” she said.
“TB and multidrug-resistant (MDR-TB) tuberculosis can be cured and the course of infection is slow; yet the sad reality is that we are made aware of it only when a life is lost,” said Govender.
“Health-care workers on the front line in communities ravaged by TB every day quietly fight this battle along with their patients, and live with the fear of infection.
“As there is no consistent campaign aimed at eradicating TB, it continues to compromise the quality of life in our country,” said Govender.

Elderly Johan Lange, 70 was plucked from his wheelchair, kicked in the face by socalled 'robbers' at a farm attack in Kiepersol, Mpumalanga - and
the old man was forced to keep repeating 'I love black people' while the attackers shouted
"I am not your kaffir'. The attack took place when the old man was visited by his daughter Monique Lange 34, her husband Bernhard Bekker 36 and their 13-month old baby boy Armand.
Baby Armand is a seriously ill baby, suffering from policistic kidney-syndrome and from a split palate.
And it was this frail little baby who was grabbed by its little arms while the black thugs tried to rip him from his mother's arms. When she clung onto her baby for dear life,
she was ordered to go to the living room.
Monique and her baby then were pistol-whipped over their heads while they tried to forced the family to open the safe, claiming that 'we are only here for the money and the guns'.
However that clearly wasn't the case: because even after they got what they wanted, the sadist gang continued to assault the old man, demanding that he repeated after them:
"I like black people'
while kicking him from his wheelchair and assaulting him.
Bernard was helpless: he was tied up with electric cables and kicked in the face and head.
Then the gang threw the old man into the corridor and tied baby Armand to his mother with ropes - threatening to take Armand 'as a trophy' and threatening to rape the mother.

After torturing the family the thugs fled in Bernhard's Nissan Safari bakkie - which they abandoned about 30km down the road along the Mkhulu sports fields.
The police said they hadn't arrested anyone.

12 Desember 2014 - In her interaction with Afrikaners USA researcher Annie Erickson has discovered to her own amazement that Afrikaners are actually in mourning.
American citizen Annie Erickson moved to South Africa seven years ago - and confessed in a letter to the Afrikaans-language Maroela Media publication that -- due to the (negative) view being painted by the USA news media of South Africa --
she always viewed the Afrikaners as 'the bad guys responsible for apartheid'.
However her interactions with Afrikaners have given her new insight over the past seven years.
Erikcson, who does research about marginalised forms of mourning, said she realized that the entire Afrikaner community is in mourning.
"There is a younger generation forced to 'carry the sins of their fathers; a middle-generation who lost their jobs because of black-economic empowerment laws, and an older generation
who feels bitterly betrayed by 'their government'.
"This (Afrikaner) community is suffering from a form of post-traumatic stress,' she said.
"However the political climate does not give them the space which would allow them to grieve about their losses'.
About six months after she moved to South Africa, she realised that everybody in South Africa is either the 'good guy' or the 'bad guy'.
She spent the next two years reading every available book about South Africa.
"After two years of reading, I felt ' a keen remorse 'for having been so arrogant in the beginning'. .
"I now understand enough to realize that I knew very little - if anything at all'.

She also researches spirtual leadership and focuses on giving space to people to mourn their losses in communities which do not see the need for this.
"I see (in the Afrikaners) a group of people who are steadily being pushed out. I see a group of people without any political representation.
'I see a group of people who do their very best to try and survive, who cannot keep up with the worst, and seldom flourish as they should be flourishing.
'I see a group of people which is emigrating in large numbers.
"In short, I see a cultural crisis amongst the Afrikaners - including their great fight to belong and be accepted in their own country. And this grieves me'.
"One thing that especially touches me is the way Afrikaners pray'...

She writes to Afrikaans-language Maroela Media: "I confess that when I first moved to South Africa, I thought Afrikaners were the “bad guys”. Because I was never required to study African history in school, I knew only what the American media had taught me, which was that Afrikaners were responsible for Apartheid and therefore the bad guys. Six months after moving here, I realised how incorrect my initial assumptions were. Everyone in South Africa is both a “bad guy” and a “good guy”, and so it is with the rest of the world (for such is human nature).
The following two years were spent reading every book I could get my hands on regarding South Africa. If one wants to understand a culture, I reasoned, then one must study their art, music, literature, cuisine, and history. And so I did just that – not only for the Afrikaans culture, but for other South African cultures as well.
At the end of those two years, I felt a keen remorse for having been so arrogant in the beginning. I now knew enough to understand that I knew very little, if anything. I enrolled in university (again) to study pastoral counselling, with the intent of learning how to listen and ask better questions. After I finished my studies, I enrolled in another three-year programme to study spiritual accompaniment, which teaches one how to journey with people on a spiritual level as they wrestle with issues of faith. I have two years left of this course, which brings me to the present moment.
Having lived in South Africa for seven years now, my desire is to walk humbly and respectfully with the people here, to forever be a student of the land, languages and cultures, and to serve where I can to help build this nation. This nation, however, will never reach its potential so long as any one people group is being marginalised or oppressed. The point of this letter is to share with you what I have observed among the Afrikaners, as well as my hopes and dreams for them.
I see a people group who are being slowly squeezed out. I see a people group with no political representation. I see a people group whose younger generations are forced to carry the weight of the mistakes of their forefathers (which begs the question: how long does one punish a people group for the sins of the past?), whose older generations are frustrated, disillusioned and often angry with current situations, and whose middle generations struggle to find work and bridge the gap between the old and new South Africa, though they are desperately trying. I see a people group who are surviving at best, barely coping at worst, yet rarely thriving as they should be. I see a people group emigrating in large numbers. In short, I see a cultural crisis among the Afrikaners, as well as a great struggle to belong and be accepted in their own country. And this grieves me.
In the seven years I have had the privilege to live in South Africa, I have come to love the Afrikaners. I love all of the cultures here – truly I do – but there is a soft spot in my heart for the Afrikaners. Not because I am also white, certainly not because I am racist, but because I see the strengths of their culture, and I believe those strengths should be celebrated. Afrikaners have an amazing ability to persevere despite the odds. Afrikaners have a strong work ethic. They also have a unique ability to improvise, make do, and find a way around their obstacles (‘n Boer maak ‘n plan!).
I have learned much from the Afrikaans culture. One thing that especially touches me is the way Afrikaners pray. In the seven years that I have been here, nearly every prayer I have heard begins with “Dankie, Here”. To begin a prayer with heartfelt thanks despite present challenges is something that moves me deeply. In my own culture people nearly always being prayers with, “Dear God, would You please do such and such…?” I no longer pray that way, and I have the Afrikaners to thank for that.
Another thing that I admire is the concept of a “lekker kuier”. It is more than a visit, more than a quick cup of tea, and can often interrupt schedules or to-do lists. In a kuier I am welcomed, heard, given priority over time’s looming deadlines, and valued. It doesn’t matter if my house is messy, my hair is not perfect, or what my plan for the day was. I thought I knew what hospitality was before I moved to South Africa, but I was wrong. I learned about hospitality from many a kuier, and I have the Afrikaners to thank for that.
One of my favourite things about Afrikaners is the Afrikaans language itself. I studied German and American Sign Language in school, but I confess that learning another language as a middle-aged woman was a bit daunting. Even so, as an immigrant I believe it is respectful to learn the language of one’s host country. I chose Afrikaans to begin with because my children have to learn it in school, and I wanted to be able to help them with their homework. And what a delightfully descriptive language! With words like “spookasem”, “stofsuier” and “trapsuutjies”, how can one not love Afrikaans? It is a young language, it does not have a large vocabulary, but it is marvellously expressive and inventive. I came to appreciate the Bible all over again after I began to read it in Afrikaans, and I have the Afrikaners to thank for that.
I long for the day when Afrikaners can hold their heads high and be proud of their culture and their heritage. I long for future generations to be in awe of their ancestors who fought bravely in the Anglo-Boer war or contributed toward the many inventions that are uniquely South African. I long for the Afrikaans language to persevere and continue to be relevant. And yes, while I long for Afrikaners to learn from the mistakes of their fathers and grandfathers (as I must learn from the mistakes of mine), I also long for the day when they no longer have to apologise for being Afrikaans but can celebrate their contribution to this great nation. No one should have to be ashamed of their culture or ethnicity, no matter what happened in the past.
I would like to end this letter by saying the following to the Afrikaans people: "I see you. I value you. And I would like to respectfully journey with you in helping this nation to reach its great potential.

Murder: Vincent Enslin 32, Middelburg rugby-player, stabbed to death in his holiday flat, Pennington KZN no motive

"(Former) Middelburg rugby club player Vincent Enslin 32 was murdered this past weekend at a holiday-flat in Pennington at the KZN south coast holiday resort.
Enslin 32, his uncle Hendrik Heyns and an unidentified girlfriend were attacked at 03h00 by black knifemen in their holiday flat.
Mr Enslin bled to death after his main artery was cut through: he may still have been asleep when murdered.
His uncle Mr Heyns was stabbed in a hand and cheek. Marche Fick described on Facebook that she was tied up by the three knifemen.
She managed to get herself lose and rushed to the bedroom where Mr Enslin was - and found him dead in a large puddle of blood where he had slid off his bid.
The strange part is that after the armed attackers had looted the flat 'of everything they could get their hands on' and loaded into Enslin's car - the vehicle was found abandoned near the scene with all the loot untouched inside.
The crime was described as a 'robbery' but in fact - nothing was robbed.
Mr Enslin is remembered by his friends and family as a 'gentle giant' who was always smiling.
On Friday 2 January 2015 a commemorative service will be held at 11ham from the Corpus Christi Church in
Aerorand Middelburg for all his family and friends. He was cremated in Amanzimtoti where his mother lives.

22 Dec 2014: Marche Fick writes from the family's holiday home in Pennington:
This morning at 3am we are awakened by 3 blacks who stabbed one of us ( a man ) with knives, stabbed another man to death, tied the remainder of us up and locked us up.
They then stole everything they could from kettles to our car.
While one guy was screaming for help and I finally managed to get myself lose and broke out, I managed to reach the other guys - and slid and fell into a blood-puddle which was leaking from the bed. The murdered man was only 32 years old. I was beaten, sick, miserable, angry and emotional.
I cannot describe my feelings after this is the second such armed robbery this year. At the last attack there were five black attackers and I was alone.
Fortunately I came off lightly after they were looting the place for three hours.

Survived: Democratic Alliance town councillor Julia le Roux fights with bare hands against black knifeman
Survived: Dec 29 2014 - Dainty Democratic-Alliance town councillor Julia le Roux fights for the lives of her family against unknown black invader in her St. Saviour Street home: she terrified him so much when she tackled him with her bare hands and chased him through her home that he fled, leaving his tennis-shoes behind in his wake...Mrs Le Roux said she woke up early Monday morning from a sound and when she went into the ilving room she saw a man's silhouette against the light from a street light. 'It looked as if he was holding a knife. I attacked him instinctively. I dearly love my sister's little sons who were sleeping in my house that night. I kicked and smacked the man and beat him with my fist. He ran to my bedroom. When I switched onthe lights he ran to the kitchen. "I remembered my knives there and kicked closed the door between the dining room and kitchen, screaming to my mother-in-law Marlene to stay in her bedroom and for the boys to ran outside with me." She called 10111 and the police arrived within a minute - and shortly thereafter followed by station commander brig. Lavona Januari.
Only then did she realise she had been stabbed. A doctor sewed up the 2cm blade-cut with a suture. The suspect broke into the house through the burglar bars in a front window. His tackies, one of Mrs Le Roux's old handbags and a laptop computer were found discarded in flower bed outside the window. She denied that it was 'a politically-motivated' attack - even though the attacker was not arrested and thus could not be questioned for his motives. Sunette Bridges' radio interview with USA radio talk-show host Dr Dave Janda is being widely circulated on the social media in South Africa.
Dr Janda starts the interview on Sunday 28 December 2014 by saying that he has had several brave people from South Africa on his show and that whenever he does a show about SA he is inundated with mails from people asking why the USA is not doing anything and talking about it - also the MSM and politicians. He says that he does not have any answer except to say the world leaders are afraid of being called racist or politically incorrect because they were so in favor of the Rainbow Nation. He says that in his opinion the country is nothing short of a catastrophe.
He then introduces Sunette Bridges. Dr Janda describes SA as the rape and murder capitol of the world and asks Sunette to 'educate listeners on the genocide in South Africa'.
She explains that GenocideWatch.net has listed South Africa's Afrikaner-white minority as being at level 6 of 10 levels before approaching all-out genocide.
that at least 3000 farmers were brutally murdered in SA and that the murder rate for Afrikaner farmers is the highest in the world, at 120 / 100 000 murder rate.
She speaks about the annual whites who are being murdered, often tortured to death, by blackin SA each year and the fact that there is NO white on blacks murders recorded.
She talks about the lack of reporting about these facts by the media.
She mentions that she challenged the SA Human Rights Commission in a court of law and that there is no free speech in South Africa under the ANC regime.
Dr Janda comments that he 'gets hate mail from the ANC whenever he does a SA segment - and that the ANC 'cannot answer his questions about the 52 murders a day, the 45,000 rapes in just 20 days,
and the huge number of whites murdered in the past 20 years and also cannot respond to his enquiry as to 'why there are no white-on-black murders?"
Dr Janda: "The response I have gotten thus far is silence'.
Sunette comments says that according to the ANC 's propaganda, all the murders which took place before and after 1994 "are the fault of Apartheid" and that it is not politically correct
to report on this. She tells that the ANC-regime's police department fails to report the race of victims and perpetrators.
She talks about that at least 1million of the 3,4million whites have already left the country and that this is tearing apart many families.
She says that there is a denial of the current approaching genocide "because it is slow and there are no mass murders happening."
She also says that the black-economic empowerment laws of the ANC, barring whites from the labour market, are also a form of genocide.
"Those whites in squatter camps cannot be helped because they are excluded from working under the black economic empowerment laws' ' ratings '.
People who speak Afrikaans are 'considered racists' and universities are closing or refusing to teach in Afrikaans also is part of the genocide.
Dr Janda asked more details about whites being refused access to employment and she explained how the broad-based black economic empowerment acts (about 106 laws thus far controlling all walks of life)
are affecting the contracts of the few whites who are still allowed to work "companies are being forced to employ blacks so that they are allowed, and are given certificates which let them
continue to run their businesses.'
She says that forcing whites out of the workplace to replace them with blacks to fit in with the requirements is not improving the situation in the country.
They then talk about the estimated 800,000 to 1million mostly Afrikaner whites now languishing n squatter camps.
(She is the president of the Boer Women's League which collects funds to help support poor Afrikaners and help them find work and set up subsistence farms to support their families with).
Sunette says that these squatter camps "are no better than (the nazis') concentration camps and that the number of people being forced into them increases by 7,500 per year.
She says that many major companies are “re structuring” next year which means even more whites being laid off.
They then discuss the fate of farms after farm murders take place.
-- The average age of farmers in SA is 67 years old and the youngsters are leaving the farms - because of murders and the government's forced confiscation of farms and 'redistributing' to black families.
" The Govt has made it almost impossible to employ labourers on a farm and that the kids do not want to carry on farming on a farm once their parents have been murdered there.
She says that the Govt does not understand that SA has become a begging bowl, despite its mineral riches, because they cannot feed themselves. She talks about the fact that SA was a food supplier and has now become an importer of food to feed its people. The world will have to feed 70 M more people if the world does not wake up and pay attention.
Dr Janda says that this is the playbook of the elite to get rid of what they consider to be useless eaters.
Sunette says that in Africa there are millions more each year and no means to feed them. Money does not help in that circumstance.
She says that it is pathetic for the world to stand on the side lines and watch SA disintegrate, especially in light of the uproar they caused about Apartheid. BUT under apartheid the murder and rape rates were not like this. The infrastructure and educations were good not like today.
Dr Janda asks where the ICC is - Sunette says non existent because they enforced this democracy that is not working and they cannot admit their mistake.
He ask where the UN is - after discussions, emails etc nobody has heard anything in response from from them
He asks where is the media and Barack Obama? He had a cup of tea with Zuma but what happened?
Where was Mandela on this? The world has made him into a remit God and he took no position on the slaughter of whites.
They speak of Zuma and Nelson Mandela both singing the hatespeech song inciting the murders of whites, called "Kill the Boer.'
They then discuss Zuma singing Machini Wami (bring my machinegun to kill the boer, the farmer) and the meaning of these songs.
Dr Janda expresses outrage that they sing these songs and also expressed anger that the ANC-regine are taking her (and singer Steve Hofmeyr) to court on 21 January 2015
for reporting on these facts.
He want so know how she would defend herself in a court of law against this. She says that she is happy to go to court and use the opportunity and the platform to open people’s yes to what is happening in SA. She says that it is ridiculous. Dr Janda ask what they want form her and she says that they are asking that she apologize for being such a racist ant that they want her to stop publishing articles about the black on white murders. He asks what will happen if she refuses? She says she does not know but that she will not stop.
He suggest that she get Oscar (Pistorius) ’s attorney 'because cos he got him off and will surely get her off for speaking the truth."
She says that she will wait and see because truth and fairness are on her side. He says that they want her intimidated to get her to back off. In his experience you can be truthful and right but still not be treated fairly. She says that this will be a platform to spread the truth and that a Human Right’s commission more concerned about publishing the murders that they are about the murders needs to be exposed.
Dr Janda asks what the world can do to help? Sunette says that we cannot rely on government to change anything it is the people that need to force change. We need the people in the US to be aware and talk about the genocide and the whites living in squalor.
Dr Janda closes by saying that Americans need to contact their congressmen and tell them to boycott SA until they stop the genocide.

Murder: Unnamed white man found tied by his hands with cables to shark-nets at Fish Hoek holiday resort
White man found tied with his hands to floaters of shark-nets at Fish Hoek, Western Cape Jan 2 2015
FISH HOEK, SOUTH AFRICA - SAPS captain Frederick van Wyk told the news media that an unnamed white man's body was found tied to the floaters of the shark nets by his hands. The body was spotted at around 10h20 on Friday Jan 2 2015 by shark-spotters. The police's diving unit retrieved the man's body from the ocean.
The deceased man is white, age estimated at 55 to 60 years of age. He wore a yellow/blue swimming trunks and blue diving-goggles.
Eyewitness news radio reported that the body had been tied with thick cables to the shark nets.

-- Durban - Young Durban businessman Aadil Osman 22 who was assaulted and threatened at gunpoint by a group of so-called "Pretoria gangsters" says he’s lucky to be alive.
Aadil Osman, 22, was verbally and physically abused for about an hour. His torture was captured on video by one of his attackers and has gone viral.
The three video clips, of two minutes each, show Osman being repeatedly punched in the face and at one point a gun being pointed at his face.
Speaking to the Tribune Herald, Osman said he wants justice.
“It’s even more humiliating now that the video is out. I haven’t been sleeping well since the incident and it has taken a toll on my family.”
Osman and his family travelled to Pretoria last month for a wedding. There, he met a man whom he congratulated on his engagement.
Osman said the man was friendly and invited him to spend time with him the next day.
“I knew who he was and that he was recently engaged to an old friend. He offered to pick me up the next day and show me the town,” said Osman.
Osman accepted the offer.
“He picked me up from the hotel where I was staying and there were two other people in the car.”
They began to swear at me, saying that I had been calling his girlfriend and that he would kill me for that. They beat me up badly and pointed a gun to my head,” said an emotional Osman.
In the video, the alleged gangsters are heard saying to Osman: “Do you know who I am? I am Chicky Lamba. I will kill you and f***ing put your whole family in my back pocket.”
While Osman was being assaulted, someone recorded the incident and it has been circulating on social media sites Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
One Instagram profile was created called "Laudium_Cardboard_Gangsters" which reflects the incident and already has a following of almost 1 000 people.
Osman’s father, Baboo Osman, said the family were still receiving threats from the alleged gangsters.
“My son is epileptic. He could have had a serious attack and lost his life. We are all traumatised by the incident,” he said.
He added that he did not open a case with local police, but instead would take it to the highest office so that action would be taken.
“I have contacted the Hawks, who will investigate. I even went to the extreme of writing to the president’s office. They should be behind bars,” said Baboo.
Laudium SAPS spokeswoman Captain Louise Steynberg said one person was arrested on Thursday. The other two have not yet been arrested.
“The matter is under investigation and the suspects are being charged with assault, intimidation and pointing a firearm,” said Steynberg.

What are hatecrimes under the Rome Statutes as interpreted by the International Criminal court? documentation
What is a 'hatecrime' AS defined within the ROME STATUTE into articles 31-33 of the VIENNA CONVENTION on the LAW OF TREATIES (1969 -- and to which South Africa also (still) remains a signatory?
(South Africa's government does not maintain statistics on 'hatecrimes' as specified above). The reason for this omission is unknown, as this lack of statistics on hatecrimes makes it impossible for criminal analysts to examine the ethnicity-links to hatecrimes in South Africa. 22 December 2014 - Louis Trichardt 7am Farm attack: André Rheeder was attacked by black males armed with machetes (pangas) on his sister's farm near Louis Trichardt.

"Cellphones and guns stolen. André's one forearm is broken in 2 places and he has 48 slash-wounds in his face. His left-eye will be removed on Monday.
He is in the Louis Trichardt hospital.

Afrikaner man André Rheeder of Pietersburg loses eye in farm-attack
Andre Rheeder (47) from Pietersburg lost his left eye just before Christmas after being in an attack on a family farm. He was repeatedly hit with a machete on the head and body.
Andre is still in the Mankweng hospital outside the city after the attack on December 20, 2014 just after midnight.
His left eye was so badly damaged in the attack that it had to be removed on Christmas Eve.
Babette Rheeder, his ex-wife, said his right arm was broken in several places and he will have to undergo surgery soon.
Andre looked after his sister’s Estelle Pretorius and Hendry, her husband’s farm while they were on vacation at the coast. The farm is about 12 kilometers outside Louis Trichardt
The three attackers broke a windows to get access to the farmhouse. He was sleeping and apparently did not hear anything. The dogs apparently did not bark as well.
“Andre woke up when the attackers shined flashlights in his eyes” said Babette.
One of the men jumped on top Andre while the other man repeatedly hit him with a machete. Some of the blows hit him in his left eye.
They tied him up with an electric cable. They stole his cell phone and weapons in the house. The men fled on foot. They then allegedly took a taxi to Johannesburg.
Andre could not free himself and continued to scream for help. Workers who lived nearby heard the cry.
The workers took him to a hospital in Louis Trichardt from where he was transferred to the Mankweng hospital.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, communications chief of police in Limpopo, said two of the men were arrested in Tembisa on the East Rand.
They may be linked with several other crimes including robberies, a rape, kidnapping and murder. Mulaudzi said stolen goods worth R68 000 were found with them.
The two black men have already appeared briefly in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court. They will remain in custody until they have to appear in court later this month.

Found dead, murder suspected: Lee-Ann Palmarozza of South Africa, found dead at Mauritius swimming pool
Lee-Ann Palmarozza, 34, mother of one child, South African woman, found dead on Mauritius holiday: police says they 'are not investigating murder because there were no bruises on the body', however the dead woman's brother says 'heavy bruising was found on her forehead and that a murder may be investigated. ' Her body has been taken to South Africa for forensic examination.
The South African consul in Port Louis is providing assistance to the family. The circumstances of her death remain murky at this time.
