Randfontein mine-training official David MacVay 29 had a lucky escape: a gunman's gun failed, otherwise he would have been dead: Jan 14 2014 - Randfontein resident David MacVay, 29, a training official at AEL Mining Services, said he thought 'his time had come' when a male gunman had fired straight at him - but the bullet failed to exit the gun...
He said he had his lucky escape on 03h30am Saturday-morning Jan 11 2014 - when he caught the gunman inside his home and the black man, standing one metre away from him, had pointed his firearm straight at the home-owner and pulled the trigger. "A shot went off but there was no bullet...' said MacVay. When his Yorkie raised the alarm he'd gotten out of bed to investigate and when he went downstairs, he and the gunman 'met each other in the kitchen'. "As soon as he saw me, he raised his firearm and pulled the trigger. There was a bang, a slight flame exited from the barrel - but no bullet, said the amazed MacVay. "I had just stood there, realizing this was my end, I turned my body away and closed my eyes. I heard that loud bang but then I didn't feel anything. I dove down on the ground he said, while the gunman ordered him to sit still and tell him where the laptop computers were. MacVay then realized there was another housebreaker in his home. He told the gunman in the kitchen that the lap-top computers were at his wife's job - and then shouted very loudly to wife Natasja and daughter Demi, 13, not to come downstairs.' The two thugs then grabbed a flatscreen TV and fled, while his wife had already called the neighbours who alerted the police. They showed up shortly thereafter. MacVay asks himself what would have happened if that gun hadn't jammed. He said 'Bella, my Yorkie, was the alarm system - and the Lord was the reaction unit. It seems to me as if the Lord stood in front of me and held His hand in front of the gun's barrel, and decided that today, I was not going to die'. The SAPS has examined the crime-scene for finger-prints and are looking for the two housebreakers, said SAPS captain Appel Ernst. http://www.iol.co.za
