A month later, a SA Prison official was still not charged for the vicious assault on the night of Dec 19 2013 against two Afrikaner nurses, Bets McLoughlin 70 and Rika Venter 41, on night-duty at the Riemland private clinic in Frankfort, FS. Bets McLoughlin, 70, was beaten unconscious to the ground and the prison official then urinated on her. And another colleague nurse Rika Venter, 41, fled in fear after he assaulted her and tried to strangle her to death - yet a month later, the known suspect, who is an employee for the SA 'Correctional Services Department" (the prison department) -- has not been charged. -- He claims he's 'too ill to stand trial', but he's back at his job at the department of corrective services. Mrs McLoughlin was so traumatised by the attack that she requires trauma-consultation. And nurse Venter 's broken ankle is still healing. The incident happened on the night of 19 December at around 02h00am, when nurse Venter took the patient being treated for epilepsy to the bathroom. The male patient grabbed the nurse by the neck and he tried to strangle her. She fled but in her fright fell in the corridor with the patient chasing her. She managed to flee into a patient's room and hide while pushing the panick button. Meanwhile Mrs Bets McLoughlin was in the wrong place at the wrong time: the patient grabbed her next and started beating and kicking her mercilessly. The 70-year-old nurse lost conscienceness in the assault. Rika Venter's husband Gertjie meanwhile has been called by a person living near the hospital who heard all the screaming. The man who raised the alarm rushed to the hospital while phoning Mr Venter and Mrs Venter unlocked the security door and fled from the hospital at the neighbour's home. While she ran in fear she broke her ankle when she stumbled across a pothole. And while she was lying on the ground holding her ankle, she saw the attacker of the two Afrikaner women climbing across the safety fence and flee into the night. Meanwhile Gertjie also rushed to the hospital to find his wife because he could not raise her on her telephone. As he arrived he saw the hospital guards and the SAPS arresting the suspect. What happened next was most puzzling: instead of booking him in at the police station for assaulting two women and trying to kill them, he instead was admitted to the Mafube public hospital for " 72 hours of psychiatric observation "-- and then he was simply discharged, 'cured'. He's back at work. His name may not be published. He was only questioned by the investigating police on January 10 2014, long after he was back at work. The investigating officer, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring, confirmed that his dossier now has been forwarded to the local magistrate's public prosecutor. Mrs Andriiëtte Breytenbach, who is the only public prosecutor at this court, said she only resumed work after the holidays on January 13 2014 and has not had time to go through all the new dossiers which have landed on her desk during the holidays. Meanwhile the residents in Frankfort are living in fear of this obviously very violent man in their midst. * Reported by Volksblad Afrikaans daily. volksblad.com
