Farmer Chris van Wyk, 66, begs 3 armed men not to shoot him dead - while blood streams from gaping panga-wound: Dec 4 2013: report by journalist Susan Cilliers, headline: "Boer smeek rower om hom nie te skiet"--
-----------------
Farmer Chris van Wyk, 66, who fought successfully against skin-cancer, begged armed attackers not to shot him with his own firearm while blood was streaming from a gaping machete-wound in his leg. He was attacked around 15h00 on his farm Brakfontein near Swartruggens, North West, confirmed wife Alet, 59. Three men armed with a panga (machete), a hatchet and a knife attacked him from behind with the hatchet's handle. 'When he turned around they slashed a panga against his leg,' she said. When the alarm in his Isuzu-bakkie went off they ordered him to turn it off. When he did and tried to get his revolver from his bakkie, one attacker saw it, grabbed it and pointed it at van Wyk. "My husband asked him to please not shoot him with his own gun,' she said. She ran from the homestead in response to all the noise, taking her own revolver and firing two warning shots towards the men. They fled, she said. Van Wyk was treated for skin-cancer last year and it's in remission, she said. The neighbours and the SAPS responded quickly to her alarm, with a detective rushing Mr Van Wyk to the provincial hospital in Swartruggens. Looted were his revolver, a camera and cellphone. The SAPS is investigating a case of 'armed robbery'. Nothing was said about attempted murder or pointing a firearm illegally. SAPS spokesman sergeant Kelebogile Moiloa said no-one was arrested.
