JOHANNESBURG – Mrs Louise Herholdt, a 38-year-old Afrikaner woman, has told Eyewitness News she was physically assaulted by a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) official on Saturday morning.
Mrs Herholdt says she was driving (the legal limit) at 90 kilometres an hour while entering the R21 towards the Johannesburg International Airport when the policewoman stopped her. She says when she asked why she was being fined, the traffic official took her license and hit her with it. A clearly distressed Herholdt also says the (black) policewoman, whose surname is on the ticket, tried to forcefully take her car keys from the ignition and broke them inside the slot.
The JMPD recommended that she should lay a charge so that the incident could be investigated. Metro police’s Wayne Minnaar says the department will investigate once Herholdt has done so.“In cases where it is alleged that a Metro Police officer has misconducted him or herself, such a matter can be investigated by the internal affairs of the JMPD,” he explained.
Minnaar added that Herholdt should contact the department on Monday to provide a statement. Sept 14 2013 -
