Griffiths family of Ermelo traumatised by 2h30am attack by black armed gunmen who tear off security gates:
15 August 2013 Gerald Young: Ermelo - An armed black male attack gang terrified the Griffith family -- Ralph, Nicolene and their sons Tylo 14 and Kyle 13 in ordeal they will not easily forget. The black gang tore off the security gates and the front door and stormed into their bedrooms at 2h30am, pointing guns to their heads.
Mrs Griffiths said she woke up at 2h30am ' when someone stood next to my bed and took my cellphone',
"I got a gunbarrel against my head and told me to shut up. I woke up my husband and said 'there are people in the house'. We turned on the lights and three men stood around our bed, two with handguns pointed at us.' Young Tylo rushed to his parents' bedroom when he heard the commotion and the parents were ordered to also fetch young Kyle 'to keep the family together'. I told them take anything just don't hurt my family, said Mr Griffiths.
The gang demanded 'guns, money and the car keys'. It's not entirely certain from this article exactly how many black men there were in the house: some were strolling through grabbing electronic junk, jewellery and cash. "They were very particular; they took our wedding rings from our fingers but no costume-jewellery. They took my husband's security boots and my children's contact lenses. I told them when they demanded the car keys that 'it's difficult to start the car. They took the bakkie instead.
Mr Griffiths was taken at gun point to the garage to unlock it. The gunmen loaded their loot on the bakkie and drove away.
