VIDEO: Teens attacked at KZN petrol station
A disciplinary inquiry has been launched by police in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal after some of the officers were accused of not intervening during an alleged attack on a group of teenagers.
This after a video emerged showing a physical altercation between a group of men and the teenagers at a petrol station in the area. The incident reportedly occurred at about 3:30am on Sunday, March 15, and was filmed by a bystander, Zululand Observer reported.
The reason behind the alleged attack remains unknown. However, station commander Colonel David Herbst said the victims admitted to having consumed alcohol on the day.
In the video, a group of men are seen repeatedly beating the young men with sticks.
According to an eyewitness, who asked not to be named, police officers were notified and rushed to the scene immediately, but they failed to intervene.
“They just watched with their hands in their pockets,” the witness said.
Herbst added the alleged victims chose not to open a case.
