Mr Minie was found on his stomach in the kitchen, badly assaulted. The Witbank News published a chart based on AFriforum and Transvaal AGricultural Union statistics on the number of farm attacks since 2010 up to the present. They write: "The number of farm attacks have risen to 67 thus far up to March 2015 as compared to last year's total of 62 over the same three-month period. In 2014 there were a total of 277 confirmed farm attacks - the highest since 1990." "The 132.2 murders on white farmers per 100,000 of the population; is more than double than the murder-rate for police officers (*of all races) in South Africa (54.4 per 100,000); and 32.2 per 100,000 for the entire country's population murder-rates." (*all races). (Chart FACEGRAB ATTACHED) Mr Mienie was ambushed on Tuesday 17 March 2015 just after noon, when he arrived from town at his homestead. "I was standing in the kitchen when one black gunmen walked from the washing-up room with a revolver in his hand,' said the 77-year-old farmer while he was being attended to by a paramedic. (video attached). “"They tied my hands behind my back and tied my feet. I had to lie on my stomach. They pulled a bag over my head and then started kicking and beating me,' said Mr Mienie while blood was streaming down his face.' PICTURE PAGE GRAB ATTACHED Mr Mienie's wife Meraai, who works in Thembalethu, said she got a call from her daughter about the attack on her husband. Mienie's son Kobie was first at the scene after he was alerted by the farm workers who had alerted him. He has a theory about the extreme ferocity with which the attack against the defenceless old man was carried out, said Meraai. Said Kobie: "I think the attack is connected with the arrest on this farm three weeks ago of an illegal hunter.' After Mr Mienie was assaulted the thugs ransacked the homestead but actually stole very little of real value: some jewellery, the copper pots on the porch, bundles of old clothes which were going to be taken to a charity organisation... said his wife. They took down the paintings on the wall in the main bedroom searching for a safe but found it in one of the cupboards. They found the key and took a pellet gun from the safe. Mrs Mienie said it's traumatising to know they 'scratched around in your private belongings'. Mr Mienie's 1997 Toyota bakkie was used to load the stolen items. Shortly before the three gunmen left, they cut Mr Mienie's bonds lose with a knife. "They could have killed him there and then,' said Mr Mienie. A soft-spoken, kind paramedic from the Langamed Ambulance Services stabilised Mr Mienie on the scene while police officers from the Vosman SAPS searched the scene for forensic clues. Mr Mienie, still bleeding copiously, was taken to Life Kosmos Hospital. Reportedly his left eye was badly injured, as well as his shoulder. This is the first farm-attack the Mienie family suffered since they moved into the Balmoral Witbank area. Their opinion is that house-breakings are more common than farm-attacks in this area. FARM ATTACK SUMMARY (PAGE GRAB OF CHART ATTACHED) *Die getal plaasmoorde het tot 67 gestyg sedert 2014 in vergelyking met die vorige jaar se 62, volgens Afriforum en die Transvaalse Landbou-unie (TLU).
