Cradock farm attack near Hofmeyr. June 16 2013: Farmer Louis Traut was stabbed to death. The initial SAPS report that Mrs Traut's finger was cut off when a robber tried to remove her ring, was not correct, a family spokeswoman said. "The wife had a struggle with one of the robbers and grabbed his knife. His daughters were on the farm and 'are all fine, one of his daughters obtained a light stab wound to the chest. The other daughter is unharmed.' The SAPS statement said that the Traut homestead is located along the Cradock-Hofmeyr road. Intially it was reported that three black males were arrested in Middelburg. However Volksblad newspaper reports on June 18 2013 that two were arrested. The initial SAPS statements were inaccurate in this regard. A charge of murder and 'housebreaking' is being investigated.
