Survives: slashed across head, arms, stomach and legs by Zimbabwean attacker with machete: Mrs Sophia Botha 63, Afrikaner tenant at Vivo, Limpopo farm: attacked by black male Zimbabwean
29 Augustus 2014 - Phillip Bruwer, Maroela Media:
She survived but is in a serious condition: Sophia Botha, 63 is in the intensive care unit of a Pietersburg hospital after she was attacked Thursday-evening in a rented cottage on a Vivo, Limpopo farm.
SAPS spokeswoman Ronél Otto told Maroela Media that Mrs Botha's attacker very likely was a Zimbabwean male.
Mrs Botha rented a cottage on the farm. The police believe that the suspect was a worker for the farm-owner and had been fired earlier in the day. He returned the same day and neither the farm-owner nor the tenant Mrs Botha were at home. He waited and ambushed Mrs Botha at around 19h00.
"He slashed her several times with a machete ('panga' in South African English & Afrikaans) over the head, arms, stomach and legs. He tried to plunder Botha's cottage and loaded valuables in a vehicle.
He was however unable to put the gears into reverse so he left everything behind and fled on foot.'
(In other words, nothing was 'robbed').
Afriforum spokesman Ian Cameron told Maroela Media that Mrs Botha was in stable but serious condition.
The SAPS has opened a docket for 'armed robbery and attempted murder'.
