The Citizen reports that elderly Alberton resident Mrs Jenny van Tonder, 61, was set alight by a gardener (not her own) inside her car, and she was badly burnt. She was taken to hospital and her present condition is not known. Also posted on our hatecrimes-archives:

The horrific arson-attack took place in Southcrest. Mrs Van Tonder shares the house with Mrs Milly Clark, 63. She said that a 'gardener who had been fired' poured 5 liters of petrol across Mrs Van Tonder's car just as she was backing out, leaving for work, and set her and the car alight. Neighbour Mrs Raclene Barnard said her housekeeper started screaming shortly after 07h00 while standing in the kitchen. "I looked out from my backdoor and saw flames. I thought the entire house was on fire and ran over there.
I saw Jenny (van Tonder) standing in the driveway. Apparently after the gardener torched the car, she was unable to get out from the driver's side and had to crawl through one of the rear windows. She sustained burn injuries to her face, chest and arms. Mrs Clark said that the 'gardener was very drunk and had recently become very aggressive towards the elderly women. Mrs Clark said that after she had personally fired the aggressive man on Tuesday, he had left. He came back on Thursday and torched Mrs Jenny van Tonder inside her car. (picture attached). The SAPS and the community-policing-forum volunteers are searching for the man, whose identity is known. (*Alas they did not publish his picture to help make the search easier and ask the internet community to distribute his identity so that he can be located and charged with this heinous crime.
