Political trial: Peaceful anti-corruption activist Tinus Oosthuizen, who wanted to start an independent constitutional tribunal in Lydenburg, was arrested for failure to appear in court on 9 May. He had invaded a trial on April reportedly to carry out a citizen's arrest to force magistrate André Lamprecht to appear at the tribunal. Oosthuizen allegedly tried to arrest Lamprecht during a church service last Sunday. He is one of the leaders in the region who were sued by Oosthuizen to appear in front of the tribunal. His list includes Jacob Zuma, police minister Mtwethwa, justice minister Radebe, minister in the presidency Chabane, commissioner of police Victoria Phiyuega and all the judges at the Constitutional Court. He demanded that the State repay an estimated R386billion for the illegal payments made to the ANC and corrupt officials over the years. In documentation he handed to the Steelburger/Lydenburg Nuus local newspaper, he also insists that the Court approve an interdict to protect him against discrimination from the State, and to have him resettled with his family in Namibia. SAPS captain Mabokalate Mashabela confirmed that Oosthuizen appeared in court on Friday-morning. He was unable to say whether the case was postponed or not.
