Pic: Insane SA cops handcuff critically injured Afrikaner couple. Roelof and Karin Engelbrecht, both 51, were handcuffed to car-wreck in Bloemfontein, reports Volksblad Afrikaans daily. Allegedly the cops also stopped the ER24 paramedics at the scene from helping the critically injured couple: Vania van der Heever reports in Volksblad: ATTACHED: Picture of the crash-scene: on the left is the wrecked 1993 Nissan Centra of Roelof and Karin Engelbrecht (both 51) on New Year's Eve; right is SA policeman's car constable Salmon Konst. Salmon Molemi (25) of DeWetsdorp, who allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of his private car, a White Golf and hit the Engelbrecht couple's car straight on. He has just come off his work-shift at the De Wetsdorp police station and was enroute to Bloemfontein with d two passengers: his 13-year-old girlfriend Kamohelo Chabeli and one other unnamed passenger. The young teenaged girl died instantly, and the constable and the passenger both are in critical condition at the hospital. The family of the Engelbrecht couple, now fighting for their lives in the ICU of the Life Rosepark hospital in Bloemfontein, have appointed legal counsel and submitted formal charges against the SAPS members who had handcuffed the injured Engelbrecht couple to their wreck and 'very aggressively stopped the paramedics from helping them". The daughter, interviewed by Volksblad, confirms that when she arrived at the accident scene, a paramedic told her that the SAPS had handcuffed her injured parents to the car-wreck and forbade the paramedic from helping the Afrikaner couple. Earlier in the week, Volksblad was also told by Henrico Duarte, an ER24 paramedic, that 'aggressive police members threatened to arrest me and my colleagues' at the crash site." The paramedics actually were busy stabilising the surviving four victims in both wrecks and one team was trying to cut out the victims from the Polo when the police intervened and tried to chase them away - telling Duarte that 'because a police member is involved in the accident, it is a 'priority accident scene' and that 'we were messing up 'his' crime-scene'... ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said they are also internally investigating the incident, which occurred on New Year's eve December 31 2013 at 06h30 about 40km outside Bloemfontein. Thus far no witnesses have been questioned by the police who claim to be 'investigating a charge of attempted culpible homicide'. One witness also told Volksblad that the police were seen 'chasing off the paramedics'. The daughter told Volksblad that her parents' condition became much worse because they could not be helped at once: her mother especially was struggling to breathe and needed oxygen administered at the scene, but didn't get this urgent medical care because the SAPS had prevented the paramedics from helping her. "Now my mom is fighting for her life in hospital because her lungs are very badly damaged. Both her legs are broken, her knees and chest-bones are broken, she had bleeding and swelling of the brain, and her heart is damaged. My father's left leg and right foot are broken, all his ribs are broken, he has a hole in his lung and his heart also is damaged." In turn the SAPS spokesman CONSTABLE Maselela Langa said 'a charge of culpible homicide is being investigated.' He confirmed only that 'police members had spoken to paramedics at the scene and the police now are investigating whether the cops on the scene had 'intervened in the work of the paramedics'. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=804905399536007&set=a.178568022169751 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=804905399536007&set=a.178568022169751.48293.116298045063416&type=1&theater http://www.volksblad.com
