Marloth Park, Lowveld: 15 January 2014: The only thing Daniel Erasmus, 65, did was to gently ask the large crowd of revellers at the house next door was to turn their music a bit lower.
The crowd started cursing the Afrikaner pensioner, hitting him, kicking him and throwing him with stones, writes Chrissie du Preez of the Lowveld/Laevelder newspaper.
An eye witness said that he and the victim had gone to the house of the attackers on December 31 2013 at around 20h20 to ask them to turn their music down.
The suspects started cursing them and started hitting Erasmus, kicking him and even throwing him with stones.
When the SAPS was alerted they found the pensioner in a critical condition with bad injuries to his face and body.
As he was being rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance he had difficulty breathing and a weak pulse.
Five suspects were identified by the eyewitness as the assailants and arrested. They appeared in court on January 2 and were released on R2 000 bail.
