Poor white Daspoort squatter camp resident Louiza Preston 57, dies of suspected Tuberculosis-emphysema - Jacques Maré writes on December 30 2013: " Louisa Preston, 57, was a resident at Angels at Work: ------------------- (Daspoort squatter camp, managed by Magda Stroebel, tel 0829697405 - paypal donations MagdaStroebel4@gmail.com). -- The camp address is: 929 Keyter Street, Daspoort Estate, Pretoria. Paypal MagdaStroebel4@gmail.com -- ABSA bank account 9241375378 branch code 632005 Swift ABSA ZAJJ -- Nonprofit registration certificate Nr 676-216-NPO Angels at Work (certificate attached) -- Mrs Preston was admitted on 28 December 2013 to Kalafong hospital after she was referred from Pretoria West Hospital which apparently did not have the correct equipment to examine her, wrote Maré. "Her admission report stated that she showed vomiting and dehydration symptoms complained that her stomach 'wouldn't work'.The doctor suspected that her intestines were clogged up. They took Xrays and took blood tests. The doctor showed great concern for her lungs as the Xrays showed spots, they suspected Tuberculosis.I don't know if she was tested for it. Last night during visiting hours we were told to wait outside while they were busy with her. When we returned we were shocked to see her condition. The nurses who worked with her simply walked away without doing up her clothes again and just left her there, it grieved me that a defenceless woman would be left naked in front of strangers like that. I also could not understand why the drip into her arm was closed when she obviously was badly dehydrated. She was feverish and kept asking for milk.We weren't certain whether she was fully aware of her surroundings. FUNGUS Earlier in the week I was in one of the huts at the squatter camp where I saw large fungus spots growing against the walls. This obviously contributes to the respiratory diseases which poor white Afrikaners are suffering from now. One will probably never know the exact cause of her death. However as we were walking through the water-pools in the hospital corridors back to the car, I was wondering about the true extent of TB amongst the poor Afrikaner community (of about 1million people). How many are ever tested for it? How many of our people are now dying of preventable diseases? We are still looking for funds to bury her with. (please note: *Afrikaner activist/singer Sunette Bridges has meanwhile advised that her charity fund would be able to help out with some donations towards the funeral. However donations to the camp are always welcome: there is an urgent daily need of nutritious food). And Mr Maré also found out that Mrs Preston had 'officially' died of emphysema - writing: "I wonder if this was not caused by multiple contributing factors. TB is not called the "poor people's disease' for nothing - and I saw with my own eyes how the fungii grew against the walls. The spores are inhaled and this contributes to these kind of lung-ailments. SPONSOR NEVER KEPT WORD TO WATER-PROOF THE STRUCTURES: I was also told that a contributor to the fund which promised to make the Daspoort structures water-proof never kept his word. The result is that after the recent rains the problem is clearly worsening. https://www.facebook.com/jacques.mare/posts/10202925219675370?comment_id=7496254&offset=0&total_comments=6 https://www.facebook.com/jacques.mare (DETAILS of donation certificate and address on attached jpeg picture)
