Elderly woman attacked by four black men: SAPS Hillcest: her dogs also poisoned, 21 Mahai Road, Waterfall: as usual, the victims are chided, with admonishments to 'install beams' and to 'keep the dogs inside'. (Awaiting name and condition of victim). -------------- 25 June 2013 A 73 year old woman who lives alone was attacked this morning during a home invasion at her house in 21 Mahai Road,Waterfall 3. According to LT M.F Mkhize from Hillcrest SAPS, the woman was attacked when she went to open the door at 5.30am for her two dogs, something she does at the same time every day. He said; "Four BLACK men entered the house and tied her arms and legs with cable and pushed her into the main bedroom. They then ransacked the house, taking her TV, computer, clothing and other household items. "They kept shouting at her for the safe but fortunately they never found it. They loaded the stolen items into her white Nissan Almera and drove away. The estimated value of the items stolen is about R85 000." A neighbour heard the screaming and found the bound woman. He called the police. The investigating police arrived and found two dead German Shepherds that are presumed to have been poisoned. Hillcrest Police Station is investigating the case. A description of the suspects is unknown and no arrest has been made at this stage. Waterfall SA Community Crime Watch posted on their BBM broadcast to say that, "she (the elderly lady) has received trauma counseling and her family is with her." The broadcast also encouraged people to think about investing in outside beams and to be aware when letting dogs in or out of the house. "Please remember that criminals watch you and this is not the first case where people get attacked when opening the door for their dogs." Brad Nathanson's Pet Detective Facebook page also said, "Please guys, I know some may not agree but where possible keep your dogs indoors at night.
