NELSPRUIT – Guests of a couple who were getting married on Saturday-afternoon survived an armed attack at their lodge early that morning.
Nobody has been arrested. The lodge's owner also confirmed that the wedding continued - even though some of the guests packed up and moved out after the attack.
Two couples were attacked early on Saturday-morning before they were going to attend the wedding that afternoon.
While no-one was injured, two security guards were disarmed. Nico Grobler, operations manager of Hi-Tech Sekuriteit Nelspruit which were at the scene together with Bossies Community Justice and the SAPS, said
that even though the lodge were not their clients, they have other clients in the area and were riding patrols on the farms and smallholdings when the attack occurred.
Grobler said that while Hi-Tech does not have knowledge of a gang active in the area, 'the region has hotted up lately'.
Grobler said there were at least eight incidents were water-pumps were stolen from the rural sites around Alkmaar-Cairn-Burnside region in Nelspruit.
And in September there also was 'a crime wave', he confirmed.
