Two women have been attacked, beaten and kicked by three men while walking near the Village Mall this week. Both were saved from being dragged into the bushes by motorists who happened to pass by. Ilze Vrey from Schoemansville was overpowered by three men while walking to the Village Mall in the Tielman Street extension close to the corner of Schubart Street last Wednesday. She was seriously injured and saved from possible rape by a motorist who stopped to intervene. “I was walking past the open veld next to the Village Mall shortly after 15:00 when three men suddenly appeared behind me. They said something but I didn’t understand anything and carried on walking. The next moment they had grabbed me by the hair shouting ‘come here you white b…’ and punched me in the face,” Ilze told the Kormorant this week. “I tasted blood and started screaming. They ripped my shirt off and threw me on the ground, kicking me while one held my mouth closed. They then started dragging me into the bushes next to a sand heap. I was struggling but could not get out of their hold.” Luckily a motorist saw the attack, stopped and screamed and the men let go of Ilze and fled.On Saturday morning anther woman was attacked by men in the same area. Another motorist also stopped to help and the men got away again. These attacks are the last of a number of attacks in this area the past year. This area is a popular road for joggers and walkers.“We seriously want to warn, especially women, not to walk alone and to be alert at all times. Try and avoid bushy places and isolated areas and make sure that you are not alone. Rather walk or jog in groups,” said Hartbeespoort Community Policing Forum spokesperson Romano van der Spuy. “Police visibility in the area has been increased and regular patrols will take place,” he said.Anyone with information about the men, or anyone who notices suspicious behaviour in the area are requested to call the Hartbeespoort Police on 012 253 1000. The police have good descriptions of the men and are looking for them. http://www.kormorant.co.za/2013/08/female-pedestrians-attacked-beaten-and-kicked/
