Biker Horst Jaeger, 27 dies in hit-and-run homicide: motorist in red Royota Etios saw the injured white man beneath his car- and drove another 100m with him - then backed up over him. -------------------------- 2013-08-31 Rapport newspaper writes that biker Horst Jäger, dad of a ten-month-old daughter, was overtaking a car driven by a woman when he struck it and was thrown off his motorbike. He was riding with two other biker-friends on the N4 in the direction of Pretoria between the turnoffs of Solomon Mahlangu and Simon Vermooten road. They looked on in horror at what happened next: When he fell to the roadway and got up, reportedly 'groaning and still alive', he was hit by a motorist in a red Toyota Etios, he fell again and then got stuck beneath that motorist's car. "The driver in the red Toyoto Etios got out, saw the biker stuck beneath his car, got back in and dragged Jäger another 100 metres,' eyewitnesses told Rapport newspaper . They did not say whether the driver was a male or female, nor provide any other physical description of the motorist. The 'culpible homicide' traffic-murder occurred at 23h00 on Friday 16 August. The father of the murdered man told Rapport newspaper: "The motorist got out, saw my injured son was stuck beneath his car, got back into his car, dragged him 100 metres - then stopped again, pulled pieces from his car in an attempt to get my son lose from his car, then got back inside and BACKED UP over him. Then the driver took off at high speed in his car and hasn't been found yet. His heartbroken dad Horst Jäger senior 55, said: "All I can say to that motorist is, do the right thing, how can you live with yourself". Mr Jäger was in New Orleans in the USA at the time his son was murdered - touring through the USA by bile. While Rapport visited the Jäger family and Jolene Venter, 26, his fiancee and mother of their ten-month-old daughter, the mother Elsa burst into tears and ran to the bathroom. The dad told Rapport that his son was with a group of three friends, all bikers, enroute home after they had been watching rugby at a pub. "Horst was riding third (last) man and tried to pass a motorist in the left lane when he struck the woman's car". "He got hurt and fell off onto the pavement and then his friends saw him get back up again. He was still alive.' Then the red Toyoto ran him down dragged him 100 meters and backed up over the biker. This was clearly no 'traffic accident' but in the SA statistics this will not be entered as a 'murder' but as a 'culpible homicide'. pThe young biker's friends tried to run after the red Toyoto in attempt to wave him down and get him to stop 'but they could not get close enough to the car. ' 'When they saw the driver back up over their injured friend and chasing off they ran to their bikes to try and pursue the motorist but he 'disappeared without a trace. Said Ms Venter: "I wonder if the motorist is happy with the fact that he has destroyed our entire family. It's so unfair, Nia will never know her dad'. The family and friends of the Jägers have launched a chain-email to all the car-repair shops in Gauteng, asking them to keep a lookout for a damaged car.The SAPS says they are only investigang 'culpible homicide'.
