Tzaneen Tarentaalrand pensioner attacked by black men armed with pangas: brave dog Fondie fights back fiercely loses a leg: "Fondie, a brave dog's leg had to be amputated after sustaining seirous injuries while valiantly fighting off panga-wielding farm attackers,' writes the Letaba SPCA on 15 August 2013. "When two men armed with pangas robbed her owner, a pensioner on a smallholding in Tarentaalrand, Fondie fought relentlessly to protect him. She kept attacking the men despite them countering her attack by hitting her leg with pangas. The incident occurred about three weeks ago. The Letaba SPCA had to step in to help Fondie on the road to recovery due to financial reasons. According to Ellie Potgieter, an SPCA-inspector, a vet placed pins in Fondie's leg, but the vet confirmed that the damage to her right back leg is too severe and that the bone will not mend. Her leg was amputated and she returned to the SPCA. "We would like to call on the community of Tzaneen for donations to cover the veterinary bill,' said Potgieter. At the moment we still need about R1000, and every R10 will help. "Whether or not Fondie will return to her owner is not yet known. According to Potgieter she might have to be re-homed. They didn't say how her boss is faring. People who can find it in their hearts to help Fondie and her owner can contact Ellie Potgieter on 083-628-9257 or email letabaspca@mweb.co.za for details. http://www.letabaspca-dbv.co.za/contact-spca.php http://www.looklocal.co.za/looklocal/content/en/tzaneen-and-surrounds/tzaneen-and-surrounds-news-general?oid=7705113&sn=Detail&pid=4981443&Help-Tzaneen-s-three-legged-hero-to-recover
