Double-murders of Annetjie and Ernest van Rooyen: testimony by pathologist August 2 2013 Parys Circuit Court:
Annetjie van Rooyen 76, was deliberately suffocated in freezer - forced into during farm attack in January this year. Pathologist Dr Daniel Humpris testified in the Circuit Court in Parys on Thursday August 1 2013.
Charged with the horrendous murder were Ngope Abram Oupa MOkoena 47, his wife Mmaditaba Francina Mokubung 46 and Ezekiele Mtshembelelel Mguni 30. They pleaded not guilty.
Annetjie van Rooyen 76 and husband Ernest 77 were attacked inside their farm's tuck shop near Parys in January 2013. Their bodies were discovered a few days later.
Mrs Van Rooyen 's hands were tied behind her back with shoelaces and her feet with wire.
Humpris said he had to wait for her body to defrost before he could conduct the autopsy.
Mr Ernest van Rooyen's body was found on the floor of the shop. The couple both were stabbed.
Mokoena made a statement on the day of his arrest - saying he had agreed with Mguni (Rasta) to 'rob the couple because they owed him money for paint work'.
"Rasta hit the old white man and he fought back. The old woman ws still alive when he put her in the freezer,' he was quoted as telling the court at the time of his remand appearance.
From the pathologist's testimony thus far, it appears as if Mokoena was telling the truth at that time, even though he has since denied any involvement in the double murders.
