Businessman making cash deposit at ABSA bank during fake bomb-threat evacuation robbed by large group of gunmen
29 July 2013 -A businessman was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash after thousands of people were forced to evacuate the MallReds Shopping Centre after a false bomb threat, police said.
According to police spokeswoman Captain Agnes Huma the man was robbed by a unknown number of men outside the shopping centre.
"The man was in a bank inside the mall to make a cash deposit when they were told to evacuate due to bomb threat."
According to Huma the man was standing in a parking outside when he was approached by armed men.
"The armed men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police are investigating an case of armed robbery."
The centre was evacuated on Monday morning after the ABSA bank inside the shopping centre received a bond threat.
"Police were contacted after we received the bomb threat and the centre was evacuated. The dog unit was called in and nothing was found. The centre was declared safe and everything is back to normal," Natasha van der Merwe, centre manager said.
