Survived: Diesel the family dog hacked on his paw while fighting to protect his mistress, 66 (unnamed) attacked in her wheelchair by black attackers. April 23 2015 -- SHELLY BEACH - IF it was wasn’t for a family’s pet dog and quick-thinking neighbours, a robbery could have ended in tragedy earlier today. At about midday, brazen robbers stormed into a Shelly Beach home in River Road pushing the occupant, 66-year-old wheelchair-bound woman, out of her chair. During the scuffle, its believed Diesel, one of the family’s three dogs, came to defend the woman and was hacked on his paw with a panga. She screamed for help and her neighbours immediately came to her assistance. The pensioner was left shaken but uninjured. The men fled over the garden fence with a laptop and two electronic tablets. Police, K9 Unit and Wolf Security arrived within minutes, and are searching for the suspects. Speaking to the Herald reporters, neighbours said they are shocked and disturbed by the incident, adding that the area is a notorious crime hot-spot.
