Survives: Chanté Oliveira, 19, shot in stomach during attack by four blacks, Danville
April 23 2015. The Record Moot writes:
-- (The victim Chanté Oliveira, 19, is a white English-speaking South African of Portuguese descent).
"A young Danville woman is home, recovering after being shot. She was shot in the stomach during an *attack by four blacks, claimed to be an unsuccessful car hijacking in front of her house on Monday evening around 20:30
The shooting happened while Chanté Oliveira (19) was sitting outside her yard with her boyfriend in his mother’s vehicle. According to Chanté’s father, Gini Oliveira, his daughter was outside with her boyfriend in the vehicle for about 30 minutes when a (black mini-taxi) taxi drove past.
“The taxi turned back and suddenly stopped in front of the vehicle. Four (*black) men got out of the taxi and told the couple to keep quiet and get out of their vehicle. Chanté and her boyfriend started screaming. I was in my room watching TV when I heard their screams and looked outside. When I saw the taxi, I knew then there was trouble,” Oliveira explained.
Oliveira said he ran outside and when he got to the gate, two of the men were inside the couple’s vehicle trying to drive off.
“I tried to get one of the men out of the vehicle from the driver’s side, but they both escaped on the passenger’s side. One of the men then started shooting at me before they drove off in the taxi. Somehow one of the bullets hit something else before it hit my daughter in the stomach,” Oliveira said.
He said Chanté was rushed to the hospital where doctors said the bullet that hit her was stuck in her pelvis. “The doctors said they will have to wait for the bullet to push itself to the skin before they can operate, but it will not give her any problems.”
Police Constable Tumisang Moloto said police were on a manhunt for the four men who also robbed Chanté before shooting her. “The botched hijacking took place in Bergartillerie Street, Danville. According to information, the woman was confronted by four armed men and was robbed of her cellphone and shot in the stomach.”
No arrests have been made yet and Pretoria West police are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.
Moloto appealed to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
He did not provide a physical description of the suspects. “I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and messages. I am at home now recovering. All your support means a lot to me and my family. I just to tell people they should be careful all the time, since what happened to me could happen to anyone,” Chanté said.
She also said she is thankful to God, the bullet did not do any permanent damage to her.
