"He wanted to live in this house because it had memories for him. They attacked him because he lived alone and was frail,' said Mr Fourie. The Potgieter couple broke down and cried when the paramedics carried Mr Potgieter's body to the police mortuary van.Mr Potgieter's van and some valuables reportedly were missing but the bakkie was later found abandoned, police said a few days later. The journalistic team of eNCA had been called to the crime scene early on 10 April 2015 while they were enroute to a police conference where it was announced that they had brought extra police officers into the area to deal with the growing criminal violence. That same day an unidentified man was killed in the Hillcrest area by a mob of black men carrying pangas. The grade 8 pupil of Kingsway High is seen in the footage sitting outside the school gate at about 4.15pm in the foreground right with his back against the wall. He is playing on his cellphone while several cars exit the school gate. Pedestrians are seen walking up Umdoni Road, while the road is busy with after-school traffic. A man seen walking down the road stops in front of the school entrance to seemingly pick up something from the ground. The same man, however, then appears in the foreground a few seconds later, simply plucking the cell phone from the boy’s hands. The boy frantically tried to wrestle it away from the thief, however he loses the struggle and is seen chasing after the man.
