March 20 2015 report by Bianca Du Plessis, Daily Voice:
-- The little girl had bite marks all over. George - A one-year-old girl was severely assaulted at a crèche in George - allegedly by a two-year-old child (?)
The baby’s mother said she had left her child at the crèche for less than an hour.
When she came back, Caitlin James was beaten black and blue, her eyes swollen and shut, with bite marks all over her little body.
The attack allegedly happened while a teacher was in the classroom.
Mrs Ilma James said she had dropped off her 13-month-old daughter at Toddlers Inn in Conville, George, on Tuesday.
Caitlin had not been at the crèche for a while due to an ear infection.
When Wilma returned about 45 minutes later she was greeted by the principal who was in tears.
Wilma was taken to her daughter’s class where she found her traumatised child still strapped into her car seat.
Caitlin had bite marks on her leg, arm and ear, scratches on her hand and arm and her little knuckles were blue.
The tiny girl also had a big bump on her head where Wilma thinks she might have been hit with her bottle.
The mom said: “Her eyes were swollen shut (on Wednesday morning).
“She is so full of marks she doesn’t even look like my baby.”
Caitlin’s father, Franklin, said he suspected that Caitlin has been bullied at the crèche for a while now.
Franklin says: “The first month she cried terribly when her mom dropped her off.
“She had a runny tummy but we thought she was teething.
“Now I suspect her tummy was upset because of nerves,” he said.
Toddlers Inn principal Nellie Fry said: “I deeply regret the little girl being hurt and I hope something like this won’t happen again.”
Department of Social Development spokesperson Sihle Ngobese confirmed that the crèche is registered with the department.
Two social workers have been assigned to investigate the matter.
