1 March 2015 BOKBURG SOUTH AFRICA - The family members of missing Boksburg IT-manager Herc Croeser, 60 of the international company Metso Minerals, are plunged into uncertainty after he failed to make his return flight from Finland in 1 March 2015 - where he had attended a two-day conference at his company.
HIs wife Rita said this was his fourth visit to Finland. He was supposed to leave at 09h40am on Saturday for Johannesburg Airport in South Africa - but instead police found all his belongings - including his passport and a large amount of money - in his Tempere Iives-Hotel room.
He told his family before his departure that he was tired of travellng and that this would be his last journey.
Rita said she spoke to him last on Thursday 20h15. "He was excited about coming home and said he was going to sleep now. His conference lasted from Monday to Wednesday.
"After that he worked in their offices in Tempere. We spoke to each other daily and sent each other messages. On Friday just after 06h00am I texted him but it did not go through. I tried phoning but his cellphone was off. I've been married to Herc for 38 years and know him. He won't just disappear and he always responded to text messages.' His colleague in Finland alerted the local police and the hotel about his disappearance. "The Iives-Hotel determined that he left at 19h00 on Thursday evening,' said Rita. "He walked 800 metres from the hotel to the Aussie Bar. "This was seen on closed-circuit tv where Herc is seen there with colleagues. He left at 22h00 and disappeared without a trace. "I saw he was still active on WhatsApp just after 23h00 Thursday." Esti, his daughter said the uncertainty is causing them great suffering.
"It's strange that my dad told my mom he was going to bed but then left his room at 19h00 according to the hotel."We could establish through his cellphone-provider that a call was made Friday afternoon just after 16h00 to South Africa - however when we tried that number it did not work'. Croeser's colleague in Tempere Sonja Toivola saw him last on Thursday-afternoon, she said. "The police are looking for him. A few news websites have posted his photograph. We suspect that an accident must have happened.;
Metso Minerals' representative Christelle Scheun said the company is also investigating.
