Murder: (nothing robbed) Gordon Traill, 81, bludgeoned to death by blacks with a wrench: Kenilworth, 12 February: police bungle investigation says family A Cape Town family is doubtful they'll find answers around the murder of their grandfather, claiming police have completely bungled the case. Gordon Traill (81) was attacked in his Kenilworth home in Johannesburg on 12 February by an unknown number of men who beat him with a wrench. Traill suffered a broken jaw, nose, cheekbones and ribs, as well as swelling on the brain. He died of his injuries in the Netcare Mulbarton Hospital. NOTHING ROBBED - SO POLICE DIDN'T TREAT IT AS A MURDER-SCENE ... the cops even left behind the bloodied murder-weapon... Police initially found that nothing was stolen from his house and are now investigating a case of murder. Traill’s grandson told Eyewitness News no forensic teams attended the crime scene. “The police came but the house wasn’t cordoned off as a crime scene; no finger prints were taken and there was a wrench that was left there that they didn’t touch. It had blood all over it, so obviously it was used to hurt him.” He claims while police were on the scene on the day of the attack, the first statement was taken a week later after a neighbour of his grandfather’s called authorities. But the police’s Michael Kgatla says they’ve taken the evidence they need. Police are still hunting for at least three men believed to be responsible for Traill’s death.
