Afrikaner Society of America Inc: "The level of displacement within the (3million-strong) Afrikaner community is staggering and rising at an alarming rate. " "Targeted (anti-white) discrimination is the main reason why many Afrikaners face chronic homelessness; another is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from brutal attacks or home invasions, often where a family member or members were tortured, murdered and/or raped. Afrikaners are generally well educated but unable to cope with the challenges that they are facing as a result of hostile living environment and the lack of support systems. Our assistance programs are geared towards destitute communities and individuals to; improve productivity, healthcare standards and other living standards; achieve poverty alleviation and sustainable social development. More specifically, to assist destitute communities to improve their self-reliance capability, inspire them to get out of poverty and support themselves. We focus on a two way approach to guide us to the solution: Grant funding to groups, organizations and communities to implement projects aimed at alleviating poverty in communities. These projects are geared towards interventions designed to assist with economic and social transformation at the individual and community levels. click here to apply: http://www.habakkukfoundation.org/en/solutions/# The establishment of self-sustainable villages where people are not passive in the development process but rather harnessing their self-help potential. Empowered people are able to overcome deficits of infrastructure and services and develop their tremendous entrepreneurial potential. The Habakkuk village project is based on a proven sustainable poverty alleviation model which encourages a participatory approach at all levels to ensure clear and positive implications for project implementation. Beneficiaries at the local level will be able to tackle real community needs using sustainable methods which are learned in the program. It is also aimed at creating opportunities for participants to create their own tools, including project activities and implementation mechanisms to ensure a valuable sense of community ownership over the project. The beneficiary community is encouraged to fully take part in identification of problems and formulate activity planning. Moreover, to run the activities based upon decisions made by their peer groups, to follow-up on progress, and to decide on whether to replicate or adjust the project based on their own experiences and judgment. Above all, the project trains communities in the efficient use of natural resources such as soil and water for their professional and private lives. The sustainability is further extended through the commitment of beneficiaries to replicate the project idea and modality at least in one more village. Revolving funds generated in the first Habakkuk Village will ensure a unceasing settlement of new villages. This is also our 2015 Flagship support project.
