BETHAL – The owner of a well-known panelbeating business in town fired a worker (Mr Neil Rossouw) - and, as was confirmed by the wife, then invaded their home with a 'friend' and
shoved around his wife Annelize and whipped her with a sjambok.
(Background: With fulltime jobs almost impossible for whites to get under South African Black-Economic-Empowerment laws, white workers are often forced to work at illegally-low pay and forced to sign illegal 'job contracts'.
Mr Rossouw said he was fired by the owner 'because I refused to sign a contract'.
"He wanted me to sign a contract which doesn't even exist', he told the journalist of the Ridge Times in Bethal.
Mr Rossouw worked at the panelbeating shop for the past eight months and was fired without getting his pay for the time he had worked there.
He said on the day he was fired, the owner went to fetch the items he owned, including a truck which he had stored at Rossouw's home.
The former owner and a friend allegedly went to the Rossouw's home, entered it without any permission and attacked his wife Annelize Rossouw because she
refused to hand over the panelbeater's property until he gave her the storage-room card.
The owner allegedly beat Mrs Rossouw on her chest with a fist and plucked her around by her arms.
"My sons, aged 6 and 11, were at home when their mom was attacked.
Mr Rossouw said the owner of the panelbeating shop 'grabbed his property and beat my wife with a sjambok which was at the front door'.
"I immediately lodged an assault charge with the police and took my wife to the doctor.
"The entire month of December I had no job. On 7 January 2015 I started working at another panel-beating business.'
SAPS constable Thomas Mogadime confirmed that such a charge was laid and that the accused business-owner appears in the Bethal Magistrate's Court on 29 January 2015.
