Days after a Gauteng mother claimed her daughter died due to neglience by staff at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, it's emerged a 64-year-old man being treated for cancer reportedly developed a severe bedsore before dying last week. Daniel du Toit was being treated for colon cancer at the Karl Bremmer Hospital when he died on New Year's Eve after a bedsore he had developed became septic. The Parow man was buried yesterday. Western Cape officials had promised to investigate the cause of his bedsore. The Action on Elder Abuse (AEASA) NGO says hospital patients who develop bedsores die painful deaths. The 7-year-old died on Saturday. and will take legal action after the seven-year-old passed away. The cancer survivor was in remission after suffering from a brain tumour but was readmitted to hospital after Christmas. Tewitz says it was a fight with surgeons from the very beginning. She says the surgeons would not see her daughter until the young girl stopped breathing and she laid complaints.
