The family members were greeting their guests who were leaving after a barbeque when three black males armed with a shotgun and a handgun ran in through the door and when the alarm was raised, fled, firing back at the family as they ran. In this incident, everybody remained unscathed, miraculously. Reported by Leanne George Beeld.com journalist: "Man Met Graaf Doodgeslaan" headline: Twitter: https://twitter.com/leannegeorge 6 January 2015 - reporter: Deur Leanne George An elderly Afrikaner couple who were about to move moved from their farm in Brits to a home in Sven Street, Ifafi, Hartbeespoort because it would be 'safer,' were brutally attacked on Sunday-evening 4 January 2015 by a group of black people who broke apart the burglar-bars in the living room and bashed the unarmed André du Preez to death from behind, while he was walking to the kitchen . Traumatised widow Elsabé said they had already finished supper and she was in bed, watching TV while André was walking to the kitchen for a glass of water. The next moment she heard a rustling noise and when she looked up, a black male stood next to her bed, holding a spade, ordering her to remain quiet and demanding 'money and jewellery'. Strangely, as is often done by blacks when attacking white victims, the thug threw a blanket over Mrs du Preez and then bashed her with the spade in her face - knocking her unconscious. "He may have believed I was dead because when I came to briefly, he was gone. I passed out again and when I woke up I went looking for my husband'. She called loudly for the neighbours when she found her husband dead. "The neighbouring woman rushed to my aid and phoned the police. The thugs took away our cellphones and tablet computer so I couldn't phone anyone'. “Die buurvrou het my te hulp gesnel en het die polisie gebel. Hulle het ons selfone en tablet(rekenaar) gesteel, so ek kon niemand bel nie.” The murdered man's son Jacques said: "We were all set to move them to a retirement centre this weekend'. André 's memorial service will be held this Friday - when he would have celebrated his 76th birthday. SAPS col Sabata Mokgwabone said the thugs took away 2 cellphones, a tv, a tablet computer and a wedding ring and they are investigating murder/robbery, and that the white man had died at the scene. Harro Rust, the chairman of rural security at the Hartbeespoort Smallholdings Residents' Watch, said that since Christmas eve 2014 there were three other mothers and an attack all against whites in the region. Schoemansville resident Marietjie Luus also said that the murders and attacks have surged over the past few weeks, and while she has lived there three years she has never been as scared.
