December is supposed to be a month of peace - but a wave of violence is holding the residents of Hendrina hostage. Over the weekend there was an attempted robbery in Protea Street, another man was kidnapped on the corner of Cowen Ntuli- and Meyer Streets and there was an armed robbery at Kranspoort village.
CRUEL TORTURE OF ELDERLY WOMAN:
Rika de Lange, 67, suffered cruel torture on Thursday-morning in her home when she was attacked, tied up, beaten over the head with a hammer and bitten. Paramedics and a doctor were trying to stop the bleeding while one of her finger-tips was lying next to her on the ground. Corrie Wolmarans who provided emergency aid at the crime scene, said Mrs De Lange woke up early to bake. She lives alone and left her dogs out of the backdoor. Apparently while she went outside to investigate (their barking) the attacker must have entered the house and ambushed her in the bedroom with a hammer. The male attacker, described as having a "light" complexion, tied her up and tortured her. She has deep cuts behind her right ear (far left pic) and a cut over her head. It appears as if the torturer hit her with the back of the hammer as well as cut her with the blade. He BIT OFF her middle finger on her righthand half-way and also bit her index finger. She suffered serious injuries to her jaw. She told people attending to her wounds that the man tried to also strangle her several times while she pleaded with him not to kill her.
DESCRIPTION OF ATTACKER: He spoke Afrikaans fluently, had an athletic build, is tall and paler-skinned. He stole R5,000 of her savings. (*Note: the Boere Krisis Aksie described him as a coloured man).
She was able to get herself lose after the man left with the cash and ask for help with her neighbour Dr Mias Pretorius. He was in his pigeon-shed looking after the animals.He called Vossie Security Company and they called in the paramedics.
Dr. Hannes Schutte, Corrie en Marlie Wolmarans, het hul na die toneel gehaas om mediese bystand te verleen. Lede van die radio forum was ook teenwoordig.
Mev. De Lange is per ambulans na die hospitaal gehaas.
Sy was teen die tyd wat die berig geskryf is in die Hydromed in Trichardt behandel.
• Die man was verskeie kere by mev. De Lange se huis in die laaste twee weke. Hy het glo eers vir kos en later vir werk gevra. Mev. De Lange het hom ‘n paar dae gelede gebukkend in die hoek van haar buur erf aangetref. Hy het vir haar gesê dat hy gehuur is om bossies uit te trek.
• Stirie Scheurkogel (97) is in Julie in sy huis in Hendrina oorval. Hy is met ‘n skuifmoersleutel in die gesig geslaan en met verbande vasgebind en verwurg. Bure het vermoedelik rowers skrik op die lyf gejaag. ‘n Strykyster wat reeds in die muur ingeprop en aangeskakel is, het aangedui dat hulle mnr. Skeurkogel nog wou martel. Hy bly tans by sy dogter in Krugersdorp. Sy aanvallers is steeds op vrye voet.
• Nog ‘n bejaarde vrou is vroeër die week in haar huis in Hendrina aangeval. Sy is na die Midmed Hospitaal gebring vir behandeling. Verdere inligting bestaan nie en daar is nie ‘n saak by die polisie aanhangig gemaak nie.
•In die Groblersdal en Marble Hall omgewing was daar ook die week verskeie aanvalle.
