Survived: Farmer Gerda Botha 35 and son Dean, 11 - Vaalwater Limpopo newspaper headline in Afrikaans paper: "Polisiesoektog ná ma en seun op plaas oorval is" October 23 2014 - Gerda Botha, 35 and son Dean 11 attacked on farm between Vaalwater and Naboomspruit, Limpopo on Wednesday-evening. "I am allright, I'm allright, it could have been worse, Mrs Botha commented on Thursday morning. Gerda said four men walked into their home just as her son said 'there's someone at the door'. She rushed to get a firearm and fired off a shot but injured no-one. Son Dean who was barefoot fled into the veld when he heard 'the shots'. The attackers took the gun away from her and fled after stealing more firearms from her safe and money from the house. They tried fleeing in her bakkie but couldn't get out of the gate - so they left the vehicle behind. Mrs Botha feared initially that her son was kidnapped by the attackers but he was smart: he had hidden away in the veld. Mrs Botha said a search party only found her son at around 11pm. "He hid amongst the bushes until he saw the blue light - running in the direction of his grandparents' farm. The grandparents, Charles and Joey Botha, were murdered in a very cruel way on the same farm where he tried to hide. A group of local farmers started helping the police with the search for the four black male attackers. Colonel Ronel Otto said Thursday the search was made difficult because it had rained after the attack and the weather and mountainous terrain also made it worse.
