Survives: Wayne Heenop 25, injured, shot at by unknowns along R21 highway, Irene, Centurion turnoff

Wayne Heenop 25, struck by a bullet fired by an unknown person at 22h00 on Sunday evening September 13 2014 on the R21 highway (at the Irene-turnoff in Centurion) , drove himself, bleeding copiously, with a bullet lodged in his nasal cavity -- to the Johannesburg University Hospital... His girlfriend Janesqua Vorster and her brother Juan-Jacques, 20, had a lucky escape from a possible armed-ambush team. His girlfriend Janesqua Vorster also 25, told Maroela Media ( published by the Afriforum civil rights group http://www.afriforum.co.za) that they were driving on the R21 highway in their VW Polo enroute to home in Pretoria after picking up her brother Juan-Jacques 20 at the Johannesburg International Airport in Kempton Park. "We were at the Irene-turnoff at 22h00 when shots were fired out of the blue at us,' she said. "All three of us saw a bright white light just before the rear left window of the VW was shattered. The bullet struck the rear of the seat where I was sitting in and had then hit Wayne's left cheek'. The bullet came to rest in his nose-cavity'. The three young whites were smart: they didn't stop: they may have been ambushed and killed... Instead Wayne drove at high speed straight to the large teaching hospital in Johannesburg. "We initially thought he had just been injured by a glass shard from the broken car window but then Juan Jacques saw the car-seat with an entry and exit point of a bullet. If he hadn't been seated in the right-rear of the car he probably would have been killed,' she said. Heenop was examined at the hospital but the bullet can only be removed on Wednesday, she said. They meanwhile have lodged a case at the Hercules police station who moved it to the Lyttleton police station for unknown reasons. -- 'The police wait for further investigations until the bullet has been removed,' said Vorster.
