It was utterly traumatic,” recounted Chrissie van der Westhuizen (40). She said she and her husband Paul (42) were driving in Bokmakierie Street on their way to a local supermarket on Saturday. A motorist behind them tried to cut in before them by driving across a mini traffic circle.
“He failed to do so and followed us, driving right on our tail. Paul moved to the left, giving him room to overtake. After doing so, he stopped in front of us,” said Chrissie.
“The man got out of his car and stormed towards Paul’s window. As Paul was getting out to speak to him, the stranger let go with his fist and hit my husband on the chin. Paul collapsed and as he was lying in the ground the man started kicking him.”
Chrissie said she could not remember exactly how long the attack lasted. “I was crying hysterically and begged the man to stop. He eventually did so, jumped into his white Bantam bakkie and drove away,” she said. “I managed to revive my husband who was very wobbly.” Chrissie took Paul to a clinic in West Street, where he was treated and stitched up.She said she was unable to take down the registration number of the attacker.
This road-rage episode was the second one in as many months in Pretoria.Last month, a man insulted an white motorist in Menlyn after claiming the man deliberately bumped
into him.
