1 Sept 2014: "The Post' journalist Andries van der Heyde quotes rape-victim Bella Diedericks as saying that 'she will only be completely satisfied after my attackers are sentenced for their deeds. Then it's truly over.'
Their sentencing date is scheduled for the Warmbaths regional court on 22 September. The State wants a life-sentence handed down.
Convicted kidnapper/rapists Morgan Mashishi 30, and Isaac Tebele 25, reportedly hung their heads after they were found guilty by magistrate Theuns Prinsloo on August 21, writes Van der Heyde.
Ms Diedericks was violently dragged from her Roodepoort home on Sunday, 22 December 2012, driven to an open land-site where she was badly assaulted, raped and robbed.
Warmbaths/BelaBela regional court magistrate Prinsloo said in his summary that the State's evidence proved that Morgan Mashishi 30 and Isaac Tebele 25 were guilty of armed robbery, assault, kidnapping and rape of Ms Diedericks. Mashishi also was found guilty of owning an illegal firearm.
The two rapists reportedly were 'dead-silent' during the magistrate's summary - and afterwards hung their heads when the guilty-finding was pronounced. The two have consistently denied all the charges, claiming that they 'hardly knew each other and could shed no light on the incident."
Magistrate Prinsloo said however that ' clearly these two had worked together even though they claimed that they hardly knew one another."
The DNA tests taken by police forensic experts who testified at the trial, proved that both black males had raped Ms Diedericks. Evidence before the court also proved that the two males had stolen jewellery, cash, a bank-card, a firearm and her cellphone. Mashishi was arrested at the Warmbaths hospital after he had gone there for treatment of 'stomach pains'. An alert hospital official noticed that he was carrying a firearm and alerted police. Tebele was hiding in the veld when the police tracked him down and arrested him. Both men claimed that all the evidence against them were 'lies' and that their DNA 'was planted at the crime scene'.
Ms Diedericks testified in court that it had been Mashishi and Tebele who had raped her.
The two convicted rapists/robbers were ordered to remain in custody in Pretoria prison until their sentencing date on September 22 2014, also in the Warmbaths regional court. The Stateprosecutor is Gerrit Pienaar, the pro-deo lawyers for the two convicted men were Floris Petrus Visser and Kenneth Silaluwi.
