Beyers Cronjé, the owner of Bethlehem1-Stop petrol-station. The black MP assaulted the Afrikaner because Mofokeng could not get the technical details of loading airtime on his cellphone because Vodam had a technical problem.
Journalist Susan Maré reports in Volksblad on July 24 2014 that the MP returned to the petrol station, accusing owner Cronjé of selling fake cards.
His employee Christiaan Wheeler had first contacted Vodacom to enquire what had gone wrong - and then he explained patiently to Mofokeng
that it was Vodacom which had a technical problem at its cellphone-tower. But Mofokeng was adamant - he refused to accept that Vodacom caused the problem.
He demanded his money back - but when Beyers Cronjé explained to Mofokeng that purchased airtime could not be refunded,
the black man slapped the Afrikaner hard through the face. The Afrikaner's glasses fell on the ground.
Volksblad got an acknowledgement from Mofokeng that he did 'slap' Cronjé. "I gave him my money and I want my money back. I gave my money to Bethlehem1 shop and not to Vodacom. He can lodge an assault charge, I will fight it in court'.
Cronjé said Mofokeng never gave him the chance to explain how it worked: "Instead he told me: 'you will be sorry about this,
I am from the ANC.' Cronjé said: "We did everything we would normally do to try and solve such a problem. But I was still busy explaining when he slapped me hard through the face.
I will not leave the matter there. The entire saga was recorded on video".
