Tereasa Ferrari 4 July 2014 GRASKOP - A woman testified in court on Thursday how she had spent time in Rhenosterhoek, Sabie where five girls were apparently held captive as sex slaves to a prominent businessman. This came to light in the human trafficking trial that is continuing today at the Graskop Magistrate Court.
Mr Lloyd Mabuza (60) and co-accused Ms Violet Chauke (20) appeared on charges of rape and human trafficking for sexual purposes. They are accused of holding five girls captive for four years. The girls were apparently lured to South Africa on the promise of attending school and a better life.
The woman who cannot be identified for safety reasons, stated that her husband had worked for Mabuza. She said she had taken one of the girls to live with her when she found them. She claimed the girls were half dressed, starved and unkept and living in appalling conditions.

Dr Susan Grabe from Pretoria is set to testify in court as she had examined the girls when they were found.
Tereasa Ferrari 3 July 2014 GRASKOP –A doctor is to testify in court today in a human trafficking trial. High profile businessman Mr Lloyd Mabuza (60) and his accomplice Ms Violet Chauke (20)are appearing on charges of human trafficking of five girls from Mozambique for sexual purposes.
The trial began on Monday but was held in camera as the last of the five minor girls was testifying.Today, Dr Susan Grabe from Pretoria is set to testify in court as she had examined the girls when they were found.The girls, aged 10 to 16, were kept captive at a compound in Rhenosterhoek in Sabie, for four years until one of them escaped and got help in December 2012.They had apparently been brought to South Africa under the false pretences of attending school and leading a better life.

Tereasa Ferrari 28 May 2014 PRETORIA-British expert investigator regarding human trafficking Mr Andy Desmond exposes the Nigerian syndicates who use ancestral worship to hold their victims captive. Lowvelder attended the talk given at Unisa on Wednesday.
Desmond had been part of the human trafficking investigative unit of Scotland Yard from 1981 until 2012. He now travels the world educating people on this complex crime.
The Lowveld has also being a hotspot for human trafficking due to the neighboring borders of Mozambique and Swaziland and muti beliefs also plays a part in babies being trafficked.
Desmond said he was aware of South Africa being inundated with Nigerian criminal syndicates he stated that there were victims in the country that were subject to “Juju” captivity.
“Most victims believed if they spoke or ran away from their captors, the spirits would find them and kill them.”
He explained that Juju was an ancient religion of the Yoruba peoples of Ifa.
“Juju has a bigger following in the world than Judaism, yet only eight percent of Nigerians actually practice juju.”
