Van Wyk of Saldanha, hacked to death 26-year-old Sinia Schutt with a machete in her Saldanha home on 26 February 2013.He was given the low sentence in his plea-bargain agreement in which he will testify against co-accused Sharif Padaychee and Jerome Januarie, gepleeg is. The latter two suspects have to appear in court on 8 August 2014. Charges against a fourth suspect Ricardo Williams were withdrawn a week earlier.State Prosecutor Romay van Rooyen summarised the details of his plea-bargain agreement in court.Van Wyk said that it was Padaychee who had given the order to Van Wyk and Januarie to murder Ms Schutt - and that he would pay them 5 grams of the drug Tik and R40,000 cash. Their victim opened her door to her killers who were known to her and left her home to go and buy cigarettes. Upon her return Van Wyk attacked her from behind and strangled her until she passed out.Van Wyk said that it was Januarie who slashed Ms Schutt with a machete - killing her.Van Wyk said he only cut her with the same weapon after she had already died. The men then left. Judge Robert Henney confirmed that Van Wyk understood the plea-bargain agreement and its consequences and said:"Van Wyk knew Schutt, she was a vulnerable individual who was unable to defend herself against the men'. Van Wyk has shown remorse and admitted his guilt. Among the extinuating circumstances for a lower sentence, Van Wyk has a young family and who was under the influence of addictive, illegal drugs at the time of the murder.Henney said he was 'satisfied' that these circumstances allowed a deviation from the usual minimum sentence of a lifetime in prison.Van Wyk's testimony will be used by the State in the case against the other two co-accused which starts in August in the West Cape High Court. – Sapa http://www.sapa.org.za/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=124599374251194
