Murder, torture: Mrs Jamima Lemmer 81, tortured to death with hot iron, husband Richard survives

Her son Jan Lemmer said his father was able to untie himself from his bonds and despite his injuries managed to stumble to his son's nearby cottage on the same smallholding to raise the alarm. When the son rushed back to the parental homestead he found his mother had died, horribly tortured. Their journalist Phillip Bruwer writes that the couple were 'horribly assaulted' and tortured. Confirmation was obtained from SAPS captain Marissa van der Merwe on Friday June 14 2014. She told Maroela Media that four (*black) males attacked the couple in their sleep at 02h00 Friday morning at their smallholding in Shere east of Pretoria. The article does not mention how the attackers managed to find their way into the couple's house. "Mr Lemmer, 84 was attacked with a hammer and critically injured; Mrs Lemmer, 81, was tortured with a hot iron.' Her injuries were so horrendous that she died at the scene. Her husband was rushed to the Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria where he reportedly was in a critical condition. Strangely, very little of value was 'robbed' : two cellphones and a bag containing a wallet with a bit of cash.
