Rustenburg/ Phokeng – “The Police are investigating two counts of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm after two mine employees from Freedom Park, aged 33 and 37 respectively, were attacked by unknown male suspects while on their way to work,” according to Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.
The incident took place near Impala’s UG2 shaft early Tuesday morning (27 May 2014).
At this stage, it seems that one the victims is employed at an engineering construction site at Bafokeng Rasimone Mine; whilst the second victim is employed at the UG2 shaft, Impala.
Both victims sustained multiple stab wounds across their bodies as well as to their feet – supposedly not to outrun the assailants.
No one has been arrested at this stage and police investigation continues.
MINER HANGED FROM A TREE - HIS CRASHED CAR NEARBY: -- In another incident, the body of yet another mine worker was discovered by a youngster on her way to school. He was found hanging from a tree, as reported by Brigadier Thulani Ngubane, 27 May 2014. The body was found in Leeukloof near Broederstroom, on a road between Hartebeespoort dam and Krugersdorp – not far from the Hartbeeshoek road.
Not far from the scene, a vehicle belonging to the deceased, a VW Golf, was found next to the road after it had collided with another tree. The circumstances surrounding the incident, which resulted in the victim being hung in the tree, is still under investigation. http://www.platinumweekly.co.za/articleA471.html
