Afrikaner father and son attacked at Magalies Citrus, Brits, NW: Louis van Wyk in hospital, his son shot dead one black male attacker

Agricultural worker Louis van Wyk of Kareepoort, Brits is in the high-intensity unit of Acacia hospital after he was shot outside the Magaliesburg Citrus business by a gang of three black males. The attack was reported by journalist Jody Nel on May 26 2014. A spokesman at Magaliesburg Citrus agricultural business where Mr Van Wyk has worked for the past 20 years, Mr Hans du Preez, said the 3 armed black attackers arrived at the smallholding at 18h30. "The family dogs kept barking outside the homestead,' said Mr du Preez. Louis went outside to investigate and the "robbers " immediately shot him down. He was shot in the mouth and his jaw-bone was shattered. He was also shot through his belt and his stomach.' After gunning down Mr Van Wyk the two black male gunmen stormed into the house, and held Mrs Hetta van Wyk and daughter Marike at gunpoint. One of the couple's sons, who also was inside, managed to get their legally-registered revolver from their (required by law) gunsafe just in time to shoot back, and shooting dead one of the attackers. The couple have three sons and it was not as yet known which one of the three sons had done the shooting. The other two 'robbers' fled without 'robbing' anything. The family are undergoing trauma treatment for the horrific attack, said Mr du Preez. There was no comment from a police spokesman because no-one could be reached at the local police station.
