Six black men injure Afrikaner couple in fierce attack with hammer and machetes at Pienaar Dam cottage: steal very little of value:
Mrch 11 2014 -- Journalist Daleen Naudé of the Middelburg Observer described the horrific hammer and panga-attack by six black males injuring Afrikaner couple Katriena Fourie 46 and Deon van der Merwe at the Pienaar Dam cottage, Rustenburg - and only two cellphones and some cash stolen.
11 March 2014: "Mercilessly hacked with pangas' - "Thanks also to the Boere Krisis Aksie for their assistance at the hospital".
Daleen Naudé writes: "The robbers smashed down so hard with a hammer on Mr van der Merwe's head that the skin burst open. It required six stitches. He sustained a fractured skull.
The Afrikaner couple remain at the Middelburg Hospital for treatment of 'deep wounds and cracked bones' when six black men stormed into their cottage at the Pienaardam smallholdings and attacked them viciously - 'robbing' only some cellphones and
and some cash.
11 March 2014 Daleen Naudé
One can almost not hear the words amongst the sobs by victim Mrs Katriena Fourie while she told Ms Naudé what happened.
With blood pouring from deep cutting wounds to her arms, stomach and chest, she pleaded with one of her attackers: 'just take everything but leave us be'.
She remembers every moment of the ordeal as if it happened just minutes earlier. They were awakened shortly after 01h00 on Friday March 7 2014 with a sharp stench wafting into their cottage. "It smelt as if something was burning. It became so bad that we started vomiting. They suspect that 'something was injected through a window or beneath a door. The cottage only has one entrance and she opened that door to get fresh air.
"The next moment one of the six men stormed through the door and said 'Stop Screaming'. She said the gang armed with machetes and a large hammer first focused on her friend Deon van der Merwe. She saw them slice open the upper-leg and back of his leg with a machete (panga), and how one attacker 'p struck him with a four-pound hammer over the head'. "The others also hit him and Deon passed out while she pleaded with them to stop because they will beat him to death.
"Then they turned on me with their pangas'. One dragged her to the bedroom and threw her down on the bed, fiddling with his pants. "I thought I might rape me, I pleaded and said just take everything, the money, the furniture, but just leave us alone.
The attacker grabbed her by the hair and threw her to a corner of the room, ordering him to give up her wallet. Then he hacked her once again with the panga, shouting:
"Stay where you are'. (And then strangely, after all this trouble, they only took two cellphones, locked the cottage on the outside and left... )
Ms Fourie was panic-stricken, she was trying to keep her gaping wounds closed while rushing to Deon van der Merwe's side: "He was still unconscious and I initially thought he was dead,' she said.
However he came to - and they discovered that the thugs had failed to find one of their cellphones.
They started calling around for help, initially failing to reach the Middelburg SAPS, they contacted a friend at eMalahleni. He called the owner of the Pienaar Dam site Gerrie Gerrits - who alerted his two son-in-laws and rushed to the cottage, breaking open the door to help the victims. Mrs Fourie said the SAPS from eMalahleni arrived shortly thereafter and then the Middelburg SAPS and the emergency services also showed up. They were rushed to Middelburg Hospital where it was established that Deon van der Merwe suffered a fractured skull and Ms Fourie a broken rib and arm. The Observer was told by Mr Van der Merwe - who understands Zulu - that the attackers 'spoke in a foreign language I could not understand'. It is suspected that they may be from Mozambique. Shortly after sunrise searchers established that the gang had gained access to the Pienaar Dam site across land from the Vaalbank direction and that
the wildlife-fencing had been cut. They entered the property through the gate around the cottage. Mrs Fourie's daughter Marie has indicated that she want to have the couple transferred to Potgietersrust hospital so that they are near her home after their discharge and can recover there.
The Middelburg Observer writes that the couple wanted to thank Marius and Shaun Botha for their quick response, as well as the police, paramedics and personnel at Pienaar Dam. Thanks also to the Boere Krisis Aksie for their assistance to the couple at the hospital.

first reports: panga-attack by six black males badly injures Afrikaner couple at Pienaars Dam in the mountain hut Middelburg Mpumalanga - Reported by their son-in-law Wikus Lee and the victim's daughter Marie Fourie : "Can anyone help please. My in-laws were attacked by six panga-men at the Pienaarsdam in the mountain hut Middelburg. They are terribly injured and struggle to get help. The ambulance and police showed up - but be alert to the fact that something was sprayed into the house which forced the victims to open the doors to get fresh air so be careful. The medics checked out their patients like assholes. When I helped dress uncle Deon, I noticed that he still has a huge hole in his chest which needed stitches, his skull was cracked but no bleeding on the brain fortunately. The auntie has a cracked rib so she struggles to breathe. I have not seen such pathetic medical care under one roof. Her thumb was re-attached but I hope it wasn't too late. She has slash-wounds to her arm, and they splintered her leg. Deon suffered deep gashes in his head. The couple now are in Middelburg MP hospital. (There is no indication that anything was robbed in this report). It's also not known whether the attackers fled on foot or in a vehicle. This is a nature reserve. -- Boere Krisis Aksie -
