Over the past three months in SA's Gauteng province alone, there were 569 protest-actions of which 122 were violent. This was confirmed by SAPS genl.maj Lesetja Mothiba, acting head. The riots are exhausting the SAPS resources, he warned.

The SAPS riot-control unit has 4,000 members who are supposed to be deployed countrywide whenever violent rioting breaks out. Many members of this unit reportedly are untrained and are still waiting for their basic-training, SAPS members have warned.
Meanwhile another SAPS member is being investigated with murder in Hectorspruit after chasing down and killing two black male riflemen who had earlier stole those rifles during an earlier robbery. (see below)
Thus far 8 black people have been killed by the SAPS in riot-situations in January up to Feb 4 2014 and four police officers were taken off duty and suspended while these shootings are being investigated.
The latest police-officer - together with two farmers -- being investigated for 'murder' is still reportedly on duty while the independent police directorate is probing the killing of two armed murder suspects during a search by members of the farm-watch in Hectorspruit and Malelane together with members of the SAPS during a field-search after the murder of Hectorspruit Afrikaner dad Leon Clur and the attempted murder of badly injured Afrikaner dad Pieter Slabbert in nearby Malelane. The two dead suspects were armed with rifles just stolen from Mr Clur after they had shot him: the two men had pinned Mr Clur to the ground, while one of the men shot him through the back of his head. They took rifles from his gun-safe together with ammunition. The police search party members knew they were heavily-armed and dangerous, and reportedly when they located the armed suspects, the men had pointed the rifles at the police and the farm-search party. During the ensuing fire-fight the two black male riflemen were shot dead.
