Between Jan 21 to Feb 2 2014, tens of thousands of white families living, working and owning homes in two main South African towns -- Roodepoort and Kroonstad -- have been warned to vacate their houses by aggressive, violent, threatening black mobs. Some 120,000 'whites' live in Roodepoort; and 24,200 whites in Kroonstad.

*A similar scenario also played out from January 21 to January 30 2013 in Kroonstad, where these riots where black residents warned the whites to get out of their homes, were "officially" referred to as a 'municipal workers' strike'.
The Afrikaners in Bloemfontein, Kroonstad and the great many small agricultural towns in the Free State province have been under growing pressure in 89 towns in the Free State: This pressure for Afrikaner families to vacate their homes and leave the state was already in an advanced stage by July 15 2012. For instance, it was reported in Volksblad that Afrikaner business people were rapidly being replaced in 89 "traditionally-Afrikaner" Free State agricultural towns by foreign traders: Chinese and Pakistani businessmen specifically. This was reported in an anthropologist Afrikaans book "Vrystaatse Dorpe 2012" Volksblad journalist Kaydene Jordaan wrote that anthropologists Dr Jan van der Merwe and Prof Phillipe Burger conducted a four-month survey of 89 traditionally Afrikaner towns in the agricultural heartland of South Africa showed that the Afrikaner agriculture-linked business-people who ran their small towns are rapidly being replaced by Chinese and Pakistani business-owners.
Burger headed the Free State university economics department. They took some 20,000 pictures to record the dramatic demographic changes which are taking place in these towns. The book is simply named 'Vrystaatse Dorpe (Free State Towns).

Prof Vd Merwe was quoted as saying that "what was particularly worrying were the 'poor roads, the many foreigners emigrating to the rural towns, and the decrepit condition of many of the Afrikaner-built old buildings in these towns." The journalist who wrote the story, Kaydene Jordaan, described that the book also 'contains interesting stories' about the 89 agricultural towns; such as the development of the black township of Soutpan, and the 'perfect watershed at Petrus Steyn, where the rain-water falling on the western-side flows to the Atlantic Ocean and the rain on the eastern side eventually reaches the Indian Ocean. "
Fifty-two of the best photographs were exhibited at the Free State University's business-school campus.
The Afrikaans-language book reportedly would be on sale in bookshops from October 2012. It's not known if it will ever be translated to English.

HISTORY
Kroonstad in the northern-Free State was founded by the Voortrekker Boers in 1855 - named after a horse by that name owned by Trek leader
Sarel Cilliers: the animal was injured in the Kroon Spruit.
During the british scorched-earth campaign against the Boer Republics, the town became the capital of the Orange Free State Republic between 13 March 1900 to 11 May 1900.
And that's where the British set up one of their many concentration camps where many Boer women and children, captured from their farms and force-marched, were dumped in the local
British concentration camp to languish.
Kroonstad's growth and economics relied to a very large extent on the large maize-farming community, a military base and training camps, a large prison complex and training college and the railway.
The town played a crucial role during the English colonial invaders' first- and second wars against the Boer Republics.
A monument to the many Boer Women and Children who were killed in the local concentration camp by the British invaders commemorates the dead.
The Garden of Remembrance commemorates Allied soldiers fallen in the two World Wars.
A blockhouse south of town is a reminder of the British scorched-earth campaign against Boer families on their farms.
There also are ancient remains of stone-corbelled huts, refuges for the prehistoric inhabitants of the region, occur in various locations about the town.
There also are fine examples of San rock art and fossils in the region.
Wikipedia writes: "Kroonstad is said to be one of the Free State’s loveliest towns and lies on the banks of the Vals River, a tributary of the Vaal, roughly two hours’ drive from Johannesburg. It is situated in an area characterised by open spaces and an abundant variety of vegetation that makes it particularly beautiful. Kroonstad is a quaint town that serves as a good stop over en route between Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, lying as it does at virtually the halfway mark. Kroonstad offers an array of activities that include flea markets, a tea garden, fishing on the Vals River or at the Bloemhoek Dam, walking trails and lion tours and lion and tiger interaction at Boskoppie Lion and Tiger park. Today, as an important administrative, agricultural and educational center, Kroonstad still boasts much of the inherent rugged beauty, which led the Voortrekkers to establish the town where they did."
