Mrs Ina Marincowitz 59 a new Stormsrivier resident who just arrived from Simon's town, was found murdered next to the N2 on Monday-evening, January 27 2014
Volksblad journalist Odette Kemp wrote on Wednesday 29 January 2014 that 'she had only just settled in at the Tsitsikamma forest village, but already made a positive contribution to the Stormsrivier community.' This was said by Mr Dewald Niemann, chairman of the Tsitsikamma Tourism Association.
Mrs Ina Marincowitz, 59, formerly of Simon's Town and a very active former member of the Zandvlei Trust in Simon's Town, was found murdered and dumped next to the N2 near Stormsrivier. SAPS warrant officer Basil Seekoei said Stormsrivier-SAPS members spotted a vehicle at around 21h00 on the N2 and became suspicious. It appeared as if the driver had difficulty controlling the green Chevrolet Spark. 'The SAPS chased the vehicle, the driver lost control, and the car turned over upside down on its roof," said Seekoei."The driver fled from the scene and remains missing.' A second suspected person, 33, was injured and admitted to Kareedouw provincial hospital where he was put under police guard.
It is believed that one of the two suspects had been working on fixing up her new home. The SAPS traced the owner of the vehicle, establishing it to be Mrs Ina Marincowitz, 69. The SAPS dog unit at Humansdorp, detectives from Stormsrivier and the visible-policing unit members searched and found Mrs Marincowitz' body. It was located in wooded thickets alongside the N2 about five to eight kms from the point where the suspects were noticed first. Mrs Marincowitz' body had heavy bruising to her upper body and face.
The one suspect was arrested for murder and car-theft and remains under police guard at the hospital. He's expected to appear in the Stormsrivier magistrate's court soon, said w/o Seekoei.
Stormsrivier residents said this was a very tragic event. 'She was a new face in town, she'd just arrived in December from the Cape,' said Mr Niemann.
"She'd already started asking around about she could involve herself in community-improvement projects. It's heartbreaking that someone this passionate about wanting to make a difference, would end up this way.'
